One of this years brood

Post by Davej »

5 months on from Spawning.

We have tried to select what we thought were Goromo, not sure whether this little girl (I hope) is gonna bit Goromo or Kohaku but we like it! :D

First couple of pics at 3 months, second two yesterday.

Hi Bob

Yes, Mum is a Budo Goromo, have tried to retain mainly Goromo fry, although a couple of Ochiba have made the grade. Keeping on about 25 over winter to see what they look like in the Spring.

Any pictures of the others then Dave?

Be good to see them in the Spring as well, I'm guesiing you are growing them on in heated water over the Winter so they should grow well?

Hi Guys

Third year of playing, first year produced a half dozen that were respectable, last year was a wash out, :( this year has gone much better. so far.

Sourced a reasonable VAT so that next year I can try and do it properly.

Load of effort but great fun watching them develop, I always try and keep a couple of "unknowns" just so I can learn!!

Aim is that one day I can get a half decent home bred up to a decent size.

Will keep them at 21 or so through the winter, their tank up is set up so they share the water with the growing on tank which helps keep the heating costs down.

Regards

Dave

They look good! Nice little tancho too in there. Do I spot a little colour coming through on it?

Hi Ed

Yes the fun is seeing how they change, sometimes it not until you get a flash photo that you see what lies beneath!

Hi Dave

Looks like the babies are coming on.

If you want to introduce some size into your breeding program, I have a Momotario male kohaku, that you can have.

Got caught in the skimmer when I was in Japan ( greedy bugger ), lost a good few scales at the time and I thought I was going to loose the fish, but it is a right as nine pence now, so must be strong.

Have also got the German, male tancho showa, if you want to use something a bit different.

Yours, for the price of a cuppa.

Kind regards to your good self & Dianne

Nice collection of home breds there, something i hope to do in a year or two, take the hobby up to the next level and give home breeding a go, if i produced just a couple with that quality i would be happy. First obtain some quality breeding stock :| Well done.

Hi Carl

Thanks for that,

It will be a good few years, if ever, before we get the collection of fish we would like to have in the pond!! But hopefully next year we will have a stab at pairing the more presentable Mutts rather than leaving it up to which of the boys gets there first!

Good luck with the new pond, I am only 20mins from you so if you want to stop by to have a chat about filters etc or need a hand then give me a shout.

Hi Dave

Trust you and your good lady are well.

The bottom one may well turn out Goshiki, and if so, what a cracker.

Tatigoi, well why not.

Regards

Andy

PS, Good luck, with this years breeding program
