im going to make the existing hole bigger by hand but will probably do the widening of it with a digger. I was shocked how soft the soil is. I was digging a ledge out put some weight on and i dropped two foot. either that or im fatter than i thought : )

Ok the ground is a lot more difficult and have just found out my step son is moving in with u in January so may have to reduce the size of pond to save some cash on running costs. :(

+ it now means i may adventually have to buy somewhere bigger

So am probably going 12x8x6 aprox 3000 gallons but as i keep reading its better to have a smaller pond you can afford to run than a big one which could make things tight.

So am continuing to dig the existing pond down. Have come accross a 4 inch thick and 6 12 inch wide concrete lip all the way round which will help support the above ground wall.

Am currently almost 3 foot deep all the way round but have hit more stubborn surfaces.

Can you lay 4inch solids upright as long as you backfill with concrete ?

SORRY.

Don't want to give people the wrong idea.
