Hi jane
I emailed the person about this pump and asked if it can be run outside of a pond

reply from him the pump cannot run dry mounted has to be run under water
not a lot of good if your filters are Gravity fed back to the drawing board

as an answer to if these can be run out of the water (dry mounted) i cant see any reason why they cant. they are all roughly the same design as the original aquamax and therefore must use the water running past the impeller to cool the pump. we have a couple of other repro pumps that run in the dry mode with no problems. later today i'll put them to the test and get one, when it arrives i'll get hubby to whack it on the little pond to see what happens. at under £40.00 including postage i still think its a bargain to put away as a stand by for emergencies, or for those who can't afford the pricetag of over £200.00 for the equivelent aquamax pump.

with the move in less than 2 weeks i havnt got the time to test as yet. much more important things to do..
i have discussed these pumps with a couple of people and i think they should work the same as the aquamax with the water passing through the pump cooling it.
you could always do the test and dry mount it..... someone has to...!!!!

Sorry Matty, not got round to fitting it yet, I'm afraid other projects have taken over at the moment!
