Chap down the road has his water returning via a waterfall onto a slate base which, in turn, falls into the pond.
He tells me that he has seen his koi on the slate base chomping away at the moss that grows on it - and his koi are absolutely huge - 2'+

Just looking for something else & came across this thread again.
Thought I'd mention my next foray into the world of trickle towers, I've managed to (cough) acquire four of those trays (as per your OP Gerry) which I'm hoping will do the business - already holed in the bottom, hoping the holes in the sides won't cause too much of a problem.
Bit cool outside to be doing that sort of thing now though but when I get the eazy running I hope the tower will sit nicely on top & won't be too high for the pump.
