Flukesolve v Fluke M

Hope this hasn't ben asked before,
But popular treatements for flukes seem too be either Flukesolve and Fluke M.

As I like to always have a treatment to hand, and this one is missing from my "toolbox" , which is the best to go for?
Good and bad points?

Or is there a better alternative treatment?

i have used fluke solve and for me it did a good job of getting rid of flukes. quick to mix and put in .expensive though.

Could you get hold of some Flubenol,as it's a lot cheaper than either of the other two and works just as well if not better,I think you may have to goto a vet.

Hi Mark,

Good advice from the guys above and i think it comes to a personal decision on what ones you like at the end of the day.

One thing for sure is make sure you mix them correctly and if using Fluke m or Flubenol make sure you mix it with Acetone for it to work properly.

Not having used any of the fluke treatments,
but I am guessing Fluke M instructions say nothing about acetone.
What is the reason for adding it, and how much do you use?

Hi I was involved in the field trials of Fluke-solve and found it to be the most affective one I have used,Fluke-m used to work very well but in the last year or so it seems to have become less affective.Flubenol works well if you can get it.

Makes very good reading.
Have not checked the cost yet. But certainly looks a very effective treatment.

I used the Telmin as per Duncan instruction and did a great job on body flukes, which have still not returned. Cheap as chips too.

Just so I understand correctly,
It is the Granules you need for this.
Mixed to the correct dosage with pond water .
Then added to the pond in one dose? (1.5gm / 200 (UK)gallon

Just checking it doesn't need mixed with hot water or anything else??

Medication is Duncan's area and I wouldn't normally interfere but, since he isn't always available to comment; below is a link to an article he wrote on this subject some time ago and a couple of quotes from it. It's long but, as usual, it's comprehensively written so I'd recommend reading the whole of it:

Trial 1
"......The trial was looking to achieve a dose rate of approximately 0.75mg of Mebendazole per 100 imp gallons. This was achieved by gram weighing the Telmin and dissolving it in a little boiling tap water and spreading around the edges of the tank........."

Conclusion to the first five trials
"2, a suitable dose rate for that purpose has been established. 1.5 gm Telmin per 200 UK (imp) gallons"

Cheers mate, yep I have already read it (several times - LOL)

Was just really checking about mixing the stuff. as it doesn't go into any detail.

I have assumed just mixed with a couple of litres of pond water, but not sure how soluble it is.
SO maybe you need hot water???

AS this is just a general question, I am happy to wait for Duncan to confirm later.

I would guess that Duncan wouldn't have recommend mixing it with boiling tap water if it readily dissolved in cold water but if you need to use it in the meantime, before we get a definitive answer, that's what I would suggest.

I read the trial about 3 times, then read what you posted and still misse dthe boiling water reference.

Ah well altzheimers is kicking in well ... LOL
