Dunc,

I have to admit, I hadnt heard of silver nitrate until I saw it posted on here, so will take your advice as and when it becomes a required treatment.

Hoping the current repair heals itself without further need to intervene.

I shall keep an eye on it and post as and when it changes in either direction.

As expected the koi needed further treatment as stupidly (I seem to be struggling to catch on quickly  ) the first treatment did not make use of the wart freezer treatment, so planned for this time round to throw everything I could at it.

Points to note on the photo's;-

1 The dermo has now gone through to the other side of the tail, and you can see from the pin sized hole left there that it comes through the actual ray cartilage.

2 On the original site of the problem it has increased in size, so all surface skin removed in this area prior to attacking the dermo (appeared mostly between the rays on this side) firstly with the nitro, repeatedly (four times total) then also overall the area was given HP at 6% prior to Mercurochrome 2% and lock and seal plus.

3 The other side of the tail had the same treatment, before the main site, which I think we could see the result of through the other side.

Planning to monitor for a week, then re-inspect.

Update pic attached - rear of tail now clear again, but front side shows return of the dermo, but moved to one side of the original site.

Repeated treatment so posted purely to keep a timeline on this problem.
