Help needed on how to fix upvc to fibreglass?

Post by Rich6100 »

Does anyone know the secret adhesive that you paint your UPVC pipes and bottom drain, so that the fibreglass sticks to it like concrete.

I am wanting to get a strong bond as I have heard fibreglass does not bond to UPVC pipes.

I was wandering if epoxy supergue of gorilla glue would do the job.

Cheers Richie :(

Hi Richie,

If i remember right people use Den Bravan (think its this) and they rough the pipe or plastic and then put the sealant round the drain or pipe and the on with the fiberglass and then cut round it when finished but i am sure one of the boys will look in and help.

Just rough up the pipe with some 80 grit (very rough) sandpaper.

This puts deep grooves into the plastic allowing the resins to take a far better grip on the pipe.

Hi there

I have found the product that I was looking for it is called: Microseal T20

It costs about £20 for one kg.

Used as an etching primer for PVC to bond polyester resin to.
Apply and leave for 45-60 minutes before applying resin and reinforcement.

Gives an amazing bond between glass fibre and upvc pipe.

Hope this helps other diy'ers

cheers Rich
