Hi Chris,

I take it you mean the lump on the bottom of its throat and that it has never been there before :?:

Just going a bit for a stab in the dark do you think there is any chance that something has got lodged in from a scrape or cut like a little stone or something and its skinned over or even possible something thats gone in through the mouth

What does it feel like can you feel anything in the lump ? I think Duncan is right you may need to cut to see what it is

stuck my finger in her mouth ... and it feels li something in the jaw line. That soft area below the jaw ... has the consistency of cartilage.

Dunc - we might be able to arrange something

Maybe a silly question but are you sure it wasn't there before and it's just become more noticeable as the fish has grown? It looks like a deformity to me at first look.

Ed, I honestly can't remember it being there before ... she's about 60 cm and it sort of has the shape of a wish bone.

ps... by the way, she eats like a pig and last year she spawned twice but she doesn't appear as laden with eggs this year as she did last.

Fair enough mate. Will be interesting to see if Duncan can 'operate' and get to the bottom of it.

From the picture it looks like the cartilage making up part of the bottom jaw has been bent against itself as it seems to blend in so well towards the back of the jaw, could it be this or is there no cartilage in this area? May be a silly question but it is the only way to learn.

My plan is to knock her out again this week end and have a good look, after that - depending on the results - I'll pm you Dunc and than we can arrange something. So will post more pictures on Sat.
