Hi Dave,

OK how about sticking a pipe like the blue water pipe around the vortex just above the level of the inlet and installing a filter grid on it.This will then leave any big waste and weed below the static K1.All you have to do then is stick a piece of mesh over the transfer port or filter grid with loads of holes to stop the K1 escaping.

You then knock up an air ring using speed-fit pipe and job done one static K1 mechanical filter :D

A few pictures to help:

Ignore the Grey pipe this is the grid or something like what you could put in the bottom:

This is a grid with a speed-fit air ring:

Where would I get the perforated plate?

And what adhesive should I use to stick the blue pipe to the vortex

Sorry about all the questions

Mark i was actually thinking the same thing lol!!

Dave i have put a link on for a place where i get my perforated sheet from and if you scroll down to near the bottom you will see it.This will probably be enough to do the whole job but if you get stuck i may have a small piece that will cover the transfer plate :D

The stuff i stick it with is called Den Braven or Gold Label sealant the Gold Label stuff is a bit extra but both work very well :D

Hi all

I have stuck the support tube to the inside of the vortex, should I also stick the perforated sheet to this or just let it rest on top?

Hi Dave,

There are two options you can either stick it or use stainless steel screws.I have stuck all of mine so far and i have actually taken them out to adjust so it can be removed even when stuck...if you have to :D

I do hope we will be seeing some pictures...we love pictures :D :D :D

Screwed mine, easier to get out - as long as you use stainless screws

Hi all

Have just completed the K1 mod to the vortex and I used some of the perforated plate with lots more holes to cover to transfer port.

Seems like the flow has been restricted to much as the filter bays are way below there normal level, and the auto top up is having a great time.

Any ideas of other mesh I could use that may not restrict the flow as much?

Dave

As a quick experiment, shove an airstone under the transfer port (to push the K1 away) and see if the other bays return to their normal levels.

Hi Tom

I was having a think and I placed a brush in front of the transfer port grid to keep the K1 away and the levels in the other bays have returned to normal.

I will have to come up with a more permenant idea if I can.
