yes it was a good un

yes the fish si swimming around oblivious to whats going on im going for another double dose tonight then i'll rest the fish clean the tank and set up againwith two subjects and pristine water so we can get an angle on how this works if the formalin has no organic load to spend itself on

so it will be one large fish and one small around 7-8 "

but its looking good so far

yes gazza this fish will play no further involvment after this last dose as it will be hard to glean anymore information from it

if i subjected it to more doses it may die and we would not know if it was from salt and formaldehyde or just the attrition of overdosing formaldehyde and extended exposure so for these reasons we must change test subjects

also i have tried to simulate a typical pond (a circa average TDS) as we know formaldehyde does not stick around long around 8-10 hours and like KMnO4 its sticks around less if the pond is high in organics and waste so i plan to reconduct these tests with two new test subjects and pristine ow organic water this will cause the formaldehyde to stay in the water column for its maxium amount of time

i expect to start this in one week from now

i think then we can say we have the al the bases covered from a science point of view the only thing that would be left would be to test salt and formaldehyde with an open wound ?

then maybe i'll have some paraformaldehyde by then

Hi Duncan

Open wound - as in the sort of damage that at least one fish in the pond could have when it’s been rubbing as a result of irritation because of parasites?

How's the paraformaldehyde production going?

hi guys

yes i have news

the fish that went through these tests is doing great but i have not had chance to change the subject fish over to the new subjects yet that i hope to do Sunday

regards the rest, im ashamed to say the guy from America and Sweden i banned from the site but they we More concerned with how they had been quoted and their sense and sensibilities than the whole bigger picture i am not concerned with how some one is quoted its the fact they were quoted that bothers me for instance John said i quoted him or misunderstood what he said fact is i never quoted him at all "period" i quoted the guy who came on here and quoted him said ! so it was a second hand quote. right or wrong that was m y point about quoting from other forums,

if they come back they will be dealt with the same way, sorry guys i have no time to dewal with your delicate nature , im waaaay to busy to chew the fat with the likes

regards paraformaldehyde i owe my chemist an apology i questioned hi s advise to me BIG , Nay HUGE massive mistake my apologies george , i had formaldehyde in the freezer for 1 month and no paraformaldehyde but would you believe on the day i wrote and questioned his info its changed? go figure with that i have the examples to show

first picture normal formaldehyde gin clear im sure you will agree

Image

second picture side profile of formaldehyde turned bad AKA Paraformaldhyde
Image

last picture formt he top showing larger paraformaldehyde precipitate at the bottom you cant see the finer stuff in the second picture because its outside the field of view of focus of the lense

Image

if you see any of the second two dump the formaldehyde

Fishyhands,

You would use Formaldehyde on your koi in conjunction with Malachite Green - for treating parasites (identified under a microscope) such as - Whitespot, Costia, Chilodonella.

you WOULD NOT use parafromaldehyde (the solution with the bits in it) as it is poisonous to koi - or at least that's what i'm expecting Duncan's experiment to prove!

Hope this helps,
greg

Hi Duncan well it go's to show there could be a time factor with it turning into paraformaldehyde and not just the temp at least you have proved there is no way it will freeze in the shed.I do hope thats not your best whiskey tumbler mate
