A day getting wet

Post by Myles »

Hi,
I have just spent the day at Cuttlebrook, giving Mark and Lisa a hand with the selecting and sorting of fish, well I cant wait for the Autumn harvest to see some of those babies again, stunning kohaku and Showa, and one or to Sanke that caught my eye ( and thats from a man who doesn't like Sanke!).

Save your penny's Guys and Gals becuase there will be some cracking fish emerging from the mud.

(Sorry no pics, but I think Lisa took a few :D )

Hi Ronin

Thanks for all your help yesterday.

To update everyone on what we have been doing lately:-

We carried out a last selection on last year's tategoi tosai before putting them out into the mud ponds yesterday. Our two growing on ponds, which were drained down on the Koi Quest day, dried out nicely and we have just filled them up ready for last year's tosai and nisai tategoi to be grown on over the summer. These koi will stay in these mud ponds now until the autumn when we will carry out our autumn harvest. This will probably be late September.

We still have to carry out a last selection on the Nisai and put them out in a growing on pond, then we have to harvest the last mud pond with our bigger fish in and bring them all indoors! A busy week again.

We have also been spawning koi again this week and in 3 - 4 weeks time we will probably be carrying out first selection on koi that we bred about three weeks ago.

I had to take lots of photographs yesterday so that we can track the development of each of our tategoi. It was a case of one shot per fish so some of them weren't quite in posing position! However, here are a few of the koi that we selected through yesterday.

My favourite Tancho Show still developing nicely, Mark's favourite Tancho Showa (yes, we have a little competition going), and one of the Cha Utsuri.

I will post some more pics.

Lisa

Hi Sue

It's doing just fine thanks and will be going out in the mud pond with the others tomorrow - you'll have to wait until the autumn until you see it again, unless you catch a glimpse of it in the mud pond next time you're here! :)

popped into see Mark & Lisa today but Lisa was off playing flyball I think!

Anyway, Mark showed us the fry and blimey you cannot believe how big they are and there are so many and not even a month old yet!. They have done really well with these spawnings - cant wait to see how they progress.
