here are the fish i am planning to spawn. the female is a kohaku that now shows a single small patch of sumi. when purchased it was clear but blistered up straight away. when healed it then had the sumi, ( had the dealer pulled the scale ? ) So it must be from a sanke spawning. i don't have a suitable sanke male but however plan to us two showa males.
Alternatively i could use a showa female, but she is a bit small, though she has shiro that is snow white but only small amount of hi.

opinions please.

Hi James

If your Kohaku has developed a shimmie then it does not necessarily mean that it is from a Sanke spawning. In fact we get more Shimmie's on Kohaku from Kohaku spawnings than we do on Kohaku from Sanke spawnings. Either way, given a choice, I would only cross Showa with Showa. Your female Showa may be on the small side but if she is three years old or more, then she may well spawn, given the opportunity.

If you want to breed with your Kohaku then I would recommend that you cross it with either another Kohaku or a Sanke if possible. Kohaku rarely come from Showa spawnings as the Kohaku fry are all culled normally.

Good luck with spawning. :D
