Trying to stop spawning?

Post by pomdac »

Probably not the right place for this topic but last year I lost a big beautiful
female from being egg bound and
becoming infected with bacteria, I never want to go through that again I would welcome any advice on the subject.
My very friendly Ochiba is looking pregnant now and I am full of dread of her spawning or worse becoming egg bound.

Doris, there are no hard and fast rules.
The problem you speak of is not true 'egg bound', as this happens when the koi start spawning. But is more a case of eggs going rotten, often old eggs which have not been re-absorbed over winter.

This is why adult female koi should be given a 'winter' at reduced tempertures and a 'fast' for 6 weeks or so.

Maurice.
