Re: Anoxic filtration

Now I've got your attention Syd,

Can the Anoxic filter also remove pheromones from the water ? :?: I have no evidence but I think it might as I'm overcrowded and the Koi are still growing.

Any pearls of wisdom ?

Re: Anoxic filtration

I currently have 60 biocensus baskets that are just about coping, I need a faster flow to get nearer to zero. I used to have 50 koi but have managed to reduce the numbers down to about 40 although they refuse to line up so that I can get an accurate head count. The reduction in numbers hasn’t helped...

Somewhat surprised by the lack of response but I suppose that is an answer in itself.

Re: wintering you koi

I used to keep my pond at 10°C for January & February but this year have 8.5°C, maybe I'd better turn it down a bit more

Re: On going problems Continued

Dave, do you have anywhere around your pond where birds can bath? Or frogs maybe. They are all carriers of parasites etc.

Looks like Duncan might have a solution for your fluke problem.

Re: On going problems Continued

Hi Dave, I do like a challenge but this one is a bit of a monster…….. Proceeding by a process of elimination, I’d say that:- You’re not overstocked, 13 Koi in your volume is good I don’t think it’s down to the pH fluctuations, the sun shade has reduced this proving that the principle cause wa...

Re: On going problems during 2012/2013

Hi Dave, Good idea having a holiday in winter when the pond is quiet :D Following on from my own problems I'm sure that part of your problem is down to the low KH. In my case the pH was stable but too low, since I've held the KH at 2dH and the pH at 7.2 they are back to normal (my stress levels too)...

Re: On going problems during 2012/2013

Hi Dave,

Interesting one this. What are your normal pond pH and KH? As I run RO I've in the past taken the pH down to 6.8 but the Koi didn't like it. They went right off their food. I now run the pond at pH 7.2 - GH 1.5 and KH 2.0 with a TDS of about 110. Result: happy Koi

Re: What good is GH?

Hi Mark I think of silkworms as being something that Koi never see naturally and they are far too fat. It like us eating hamburgers all day long......... So moving forward, I too will run at near to zero GH and 1 or 2 KH with recycling and RO. At these levels it becomes even more essential to...
