There's this article written by Mike Snaden from his Yumekoi site too that doesn't quite need dissection!

Re: koi foods
Almost the same as Chris! I use the same feed as Maurice at Koi UK which is a Coppens brand - not fancy but if it's good enough for his livelihood (and even his best fish in the concrete ponds) then it's good enough for me! Edit: Should have said he doesn't sell this stuff so please don't ask him at...

Re: Who uses a uv?
Mine has gone slightly green too as it does this time of year, but still no need for the UV IMO. Give it 2-4 weeks and mine has always cleared.
Was hoping the other guys who don't use a UV might chip in with some info about their ponds too.

Re: Stagnant water
I'd say after a few hours it'd be a good idea to flush the water left in the pipes to waste and give the damp media a quick rinse in pond water before flushing that away too. I wouldn't leave any media sat in pond water to store it for any length of time without keeping water going through it.

Re: any ideas
Ed, I honestly can't remember it being there before ... she's about 60 cm and it sort of has the shape of a wish bone. ps... by the way, she eats like a pig and last year she spawned twice but she doesn't appear as laden with eggs this year as she did last. Fair enough mate. Will be interesting to ...

Re: any ideas
Maybe a silly question but are you sure it wasn't there before and it's just become more noticeable as the fish has grown? It looks like a deformity to me at first look.

Re: Who uses a uv?
Right, sorry for the delay on this. Now I've had some responses I'll talk a bit more about my ideas and trying to see if I'm right! I think that algae in a pond is probably triggered by similar things to that in a planted tropical tank. Let me give you a bit more information about planted tanks and ...

Thanks for the votes guys. Meant to post the next bit earlier this week but just been too busy. Will sit down with my laptop later and do a proper post as it'll take too long on my phone!

Re: ideas please for rebuild
Not confusing at all mate. In your case I might hedge my bets and bench the floor just in case. If you think the current filter copes well with your current pond then doubling the pond might mean doubling the filtration! Your other choice might be to take one or two of the bottom drains and pump the...

Re: ideas please for rebuild
If the drains are aerated then you can have a flat floor. Rather than go to all the trouble of digging out though could you just build walls up to increase the depth? I'd say round chambers were slightly better as each can work like a mini vortex but square ones make better use of small spaces and c...
