Re: Food and amounts

Hi The spreadsheet is a modelling tool based on Japanese published feeding regimes and then tweaked a little for the UK. I tend to follow the temps quite accurately. Regarding the feeding regime, I'm not there - in that (a) I don't weight out the food! and (b) I'm not feeding 2.X kg a day in Septemb...

Re: Cosmetic Surgery Anyone ?

Yes, that's looking like requiring a pick axe to get at! You'd probably have to dig into the koi to extract that one given the deepness of the colour that looks like it's come right up from the scale. Or if it were on one scale only then if that scale "went missing in action" then you migh...

Hm, the contageous bit hasn't got me exactly "pleased".... I have 13 other fine hikui-free examples who are in with mutley (from the other thread).

Hm....

Re: RO Systems

OK, well: 1/ Membranes last about a year and I get through a lot of water. 2/ Currrently running it without a pump which means output is a lot lower but actually "about right" for the pond. 3/ Water Co are fine. 4/ Water bill is massive/ridiculous. 5/ Sewerage firm (not same as water provi...

Re: Cosmetic Surgery Anyone ?

Hi

For the areas that were affected last year it seems to have done the job. Last year it was a few areas but signficant damage.

This year we seem to have blemishes across the beni so I'm not holding out much hope here (where hope means getting any decent beni condition back). Too much damage.

Re: Cosmetic Surgery Anyone ?

Greg Had someone round last weekend who was mad about "bendy". I had to eventually put them out of their misery and point out that perhaps the sumi was very good, that she was well over 80cm, had a good body shape, but might not be exactly straight! OK, well here is the sanke. In terms of ...

Re: Cosmetic Surgery Anyone ?

Anything with a "future" may well get the knife. As there's no "price list" to koi then it's simply what has been presented before you. If the modification is sustainable (i.e. won't revert) then I don't have an issue with the breeder doing it. The skill is in selecting the koi t...

Re: Cosmetic Surgery Anyone ?

Juices flowing on a Sunday morning ... uh no... normally trying to recover some brain cells! :D I know speaking with some recent visitors to Japan that the cutting crews were out in force. As you say, they can transform a pattern in front of your eyes. And you'd never know the difference. Japan show...

Dunc

There's apparently a mobile van cutting service too. Some very skilled individuals!

Not to be pedantic (but going to be), but I think you'll find I made your key points previously!

Re: Cosmetic Surgery Anyone ?

Hi Greg

Well considered post. Out of interest then...

So how many koi have been expelled in the last 5 years from UK koi shows as a result of being cut/edited/cosmetically altered?

I'm guessing it's tending towards 0.

Re: Cosmetic Surgery Anyone ?

Boy, some people must have sore bottoms or simply follow the herd ;) {I'm jesting, Greg} Anything goes as far as I'm concerned. Anything goes providing it's done in a manner that with a good possible procedure. The reality is: 1/ The % of major show winners in Japan have probably been edited to some...

Barry Just for info... Rob Reynolds @ Seers Croft Veterinary Surgery Tower Rd, Faygate, Horsham, West Sussex RH12 4SD (Tel: 01293 851122) [It's Crawley rather than Horsham] He deals with exotics. But home visit would not be cheap, so best to go with what you've found to date and see how that goes. Tom
