Re: Pond filter help please

Hi Graham, just spotted this. The easy bolt on answer would be something like an Aquamax 8500 Start through 1.5 inch pipe to an Eazypod. You might like to look into those. While not cheap at purchase both are top quality units which will improve your filtration massively and make maintenance far easier...

One thing from experience if you're using a liner. Don't use butyl rubber.Use 1.0 mm EPDM instead.A bit harder to get around corners but lasts longer. My last two butyl liners were eaten by caddisfly larvae and lasted 3-5 years. The newer EPDM is showing no signs of succumbing to this and was recomme...

Louie, Some of my experiences may help your decision making process. My pond;10,000L EPDM liner pond, pump fed filters and too many fish. First filter is a three bay commercial one of around 50 gallons.I've converted it to static media in the first bay,Jap mat in the second, and currently debris netti...

Actually it has a larger surface area than K1. Kaldnes has a high specific surface area per volume of 800 m2 / m3 HSA Surface area of approximately 963m2/m3 I really can't see it collapsing just because it's being agitated with air.Wouldn't mind getting some in my hand for a squeeze test though.

Not using it but it sounds fine. HSA (High Surface Area) filter media. Manufactured from black Polypropylene. Surface area of approximately 963m2/m3. The media has a density very close to that of water which makes it suitable for fluidised and free floating filters. Proven in waste water and fish fa...

Thing is,even if your water company adds chloramines (mine does) and you use a sodium thiosulphate based dechlorinator (most of them) then this will neutralise the chlorine element and release the ammonia element of the chloramine into the water.Unless you have remarkably accurate instruments you wi...

Bob, Would I be right in guessing that the alfragog in this case must be packed too tightly in the top tier if it's clogging and blocking? I thought the idea of a shower was to have large voids for gassing off purposes with some media getting in the way on the way down.Wouldn't thinning the media he...

Have you been in the coffee shop Scott? :D

Agreed the 10000 uses the same as last years 8000 @ 110 watts which makes it a good pump.It doesn't use less. :?:

The new 8000 Eco is 80 watts.

I'd take a 10000 if the price was right.

:D Hope I helped and didn't muddy the water too much. :D I'm still hunting around but want an eco sometime in the spring to beef up my flow rate.Still not sure what size but the 16000 looks good what with controllable flow and all that. I reckon they even make sequence pumps look a bit limp but I am...

Scott, The old style 12000 uses 200 watts. The new Eco 12000 uses 130 watts. That's 35% less power or more accurately 65% of the power usage.Used 24/7/365 that adds up and is environmentally friendlier.I wasn't comparing the 10000 to anything and they no longer make an equivalent pump anyway. The 8500...
