I like it Bob. Particularly the fact that when drained down you have full access underneath to pick out blanket weed, stray frogs etc. I have to convert my vortex on my multibay and horizontal pipes sat on the wier could be an option for that. Any worries about clogging around the pipes? I suppose 2...

I have had my eye on this abandoned wheelie bin for over 6 months now. The problem is that until I get approval for it I won't drag it into my back garden because if I do and then later have an (enforced) change of mind it will be my rubbish which I can't just chuck under a hedge. I keep telling the...

Not seen one of these Blue Peter'ed before so I want to understand it.

There is no pumping of water - it is just the rising air doing all the work?

And you just sit it in a section of the filter?

The mere mention of a stack of boxes (or worse, the wheelie bin in the hedge in the field behind us) gets me a very bad look. I am thinking feature :) so you actually do want to look at it. I have an idea but will save it for my own Blue Peter thread.

Because I have pushed my luck with the pond size and I am up against the boundary I have little room for anything. The only thing I have is the kids play shed at the back but it isn't very big and is above the pond so will increase the head I have to go to. It is currently full of kids toys though. ...

Brilliant thread John, I applaud your ingenuity. I think you should go for the water butt (or bin / boxes) on the end of your pressure fed filter. No harm in dropping your water through any additional filtration. I am currently in negotiations with my wife about skimmer line filtration options. I wa...

Media might add a few £££'s to the cost but that really is a bargain set up. What's going in the QT then?

I think I will have a mix of insulation board on the above ground exposed sides with render on the others. Probably a first but there you go.

I would love to see a book about the whole experiment and all your findings. It is clear from the writing on here that you have really worked to make the best possible environment for your koi. That backed up by the scientific approach you have should make good reading. Keep us informed about your p...

Thanks for the pic Kim. I hope to get a better finish than that but at the end of the day it will have a coating of algae and is under the water. Are we being too perfectionist?

Am I correct in assuming that the foil backing goes against the wall and the foam face gets glassed? I might put some along my external walls and render up to it.

Anyone mixed foam and render?

I have thought about it and swung from that to render more times than I can count. The actual type of insulation would have to come back to the fibreglass. There are insulation boards that are put into the bottom of floor slabs so they have good compressive strength but will the fibreglass adhere pr...
