Water quality have we got it all wrong?

Was at leeds armories on Wednesday and just happened to look in the water in the marina next to it and couldn't quite believe my eyes, it was at least 2 foot in length.

Re: Who uses a uv?

Ahh, ok, When I was running pure RO into the pond to bring down the high KH I had built up over winter, I thought it would reduce the green water as there is nothing in it to act as a food source, made no difference, and even now with a 50/50 split of tapwater to RO fed in at 1000L per day, still ha...

Re: Who uses a uv?

After 4 days of the UV being on I can finally see the bottom of the pond again, My pond will be in direct sun most of the summer (good for the water temp) so I think the UV will be staying on over the summer, what is really good news though is the bead after the pod is working wonders and dealing wi...

Re: Who uses a uv?

Hi eds, yes I am feeding more, since beginning march been chucking a handful in on a morning mixture of staple/medicarp/yamato. we had two really good days of sun when it finally made it above the house and the pond had a good 6 hours of sun on it each, so the food may have contributed eh?

Re: koi foods

I use yamato nishiki as my 'staple' its got good quality ingredients and works out at £2 a pound when bought in 10kg sacks, I then supplement with (this year) SH colour for april/may, SH growth for June/July, then supplement with medi carp aug/sept, Wheat germ for sept, then nowt except the odd hand...

another update with the sunny days this week, it is a real pea souper now, so uv up and running see how long it takes to clear, a while I reckon.

Re: Who uses a uv?

weekly update, very sunny day today, sun was on pond most of the day, nice green colour to the water, not showing any signs of clearing though, I will need a pergola on this year I reckon, one to keep the seagulls from harassing the fish, and two to keep the sun of the water, will leave till end of ...

Re: kohako or goromo / nice showa?

I really like the showa, and its certainly hinting at female, but a look at the anal vent and a feel of the gill plate once the weather warms up a bit more should confirm it either way. I'd also wager the others a goromo,

Re: Who uses a uv?

Well two sunny days last week has seen my pond transformed into the black lagoon, seriously green and dingy, no uv on, tempted to leave it to see if it clears up on its own, although I think I tried that last year and it didn't, For the record my pond is 1500 galls, gravity fed easy pod for mechanic...

Re: hi all

Wasn;t aware there was a divide on the subject, my bottom is also flat, and keeps very clean, I did it that way as I lined mine in jabfloor insulation and it was the easiest way to do it, I believe having an incline toeard the BD's also works.

Re: No filtraton at all ?

For people who aren't on a water meter it's no issue then, only for people who are on one. It would be an interesting experiment, the only probable drawback would be if someone is heated...topping up water(depending on flow) would have an effect on the temp of the pond. Well not so much the temp, a...
