Re: RO buffering-Bicarb or source water
Kev, I have tried both and actually prefer "option 2" as i find it easier to manage - just set up the balance i want and away i go. Having said that i am in the process of taking this a step further and using PH controllers to maintain the desired PH in the pond. ie:- The RO unit runs full...

Re: Persistant Trichodina
Tom, Yes 3000 gallons. Input was on last check point - 275ml per min @ 101TDS with it typically being i guess 25% mix and 75% RO (although not measured % of each just used a TDS meter to balance the TDS reading i wanted) Mix ratio is as of yesterday is out the window as i just opened up the "mi...

Re: Persistant Trichodina
Tom, Nerdily - pond TDS is currently 240-250ppm and as you know i'm inputting an RO / water mix - this is typically about 100-110ppm. So the answer to your question is yes that its a problem at least in my opinion. Basically my little RO unit is not coping with the stocking level and the feed rates ...

Re: Persistant Trichodina
Cheers All, I am on a reducing organic load in the pond drive with higher % water changes after the deep clean. I have fixed the guttering and will see if this changes anything as i will be hitting this in the AM. I have had suggested a PP dip for each koi prior to returning to the pond followed by ...

Persistant Trichodina
Over the last couple of weeks my koi have been "off". The first scrape revealed an easy diagnosis - Trichodina! I immediately cleaned the settlement (done each week) and then topped up with fresh water - stopped feeding and then dosed the pond with a 2ppm treatment of PP. This held the wat...

Re: Bug Eyed.....?
Mark, I'm with Tom and Gazza on this one..... cannot see anything to bad to be honest and with the assault going on in the pond this year then koi will no doubt be showing signs of stress / be looking a little off. I tend to find after i've treated this knocks the filters a bit so water quality drop...

Re: Baytryl
Greg - if your vet has baytril as a "non-stock" item then what's the current injectable in favour for cats/dogs? 4 years ago it was certainly baytril for cat infections at my vets. Interested to see where they've moved onto. Tom Tom, To be honest i have no idea - i didn't ask and it was a...

Re: Baytryl
So.... Are we saying that this stuff - http://www.mercasystems.com/pigeons/index.php/enroflox-100-ml-antibiotico-de-amplio-espectro.html is available without prescription and does the same things as 10% baytril and a third of the cost? If so that really is a success for the "Ultra" zone an...

Re: Baytryl
Steve,
Same here. Albeit around 2 years ago now my vet prescribed 10% baytril no problem and in fact as it was a "non stock" item i had to buy the whole bottle which he let me keep - happy days. Things the cost was about £65 + vat for 100ml.

Re: Streamflow ponds???
Bob,
The 30,000lph Lifetech Pipe pump "realistically" delivers 5600gph over a shower (I know i measured it) this is using 4" spraybar and only 1 x 90deg bend. So you should be able to feed the chamber using two 4" side drains.

Re: Differing topical treatments and their uses??
Thanks Guys, I use Dunc's stuff also - but wondered if there were specific uses for things and also if there were varying degree's on strength in these products. As to my mind i wouldn't want to use an "aggressive" topical on a second round of treatment if the wound was showing signs of he...

Differing topical treatments and their uses??
All, In this hobby of many roads we all hear / have differing opinions and i would like to hear thoughts / opinons and facts about the above subject. I was with a hobbyist yesterday who was helping a fellow club member out by treating a couple of koi for him. His choice of topical treatment was Gent...

Re: Streamflow ponds???
Duncan, I don't have any schematics but i do know the links for two of them on Maurice Cox's Koi UK forum. One is Stuart Toms pond and has already been mentioned here as being a very successful pond. http://mauricecox.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=koihobby&thread=755&page=...
