Re: Anoxic filtration

Hi Chaps. Update; you'll remember that I was thinking about making the jump from "conventional" to anoxic filtration. Well, it's slow going due to work commitments and the fact that I'm a DIY biff but I've made a start. The timber frame for my 6' x 2.5' x 2.5' pool is built and sitting on ...

Re: fin rot

Hi Amanda, are you able to post a clear photo/s to help? I only know what I've read in Duncan's book and it seems fin infections/fin rot can be tricky to treat. Hopefully he'll see this and answer in a bit of detail but a picture paints a thousand words and would help others like me recognise the si...

Re: bacteria and the nitrogen cycle

Russ; Great question! I've no idea what the answer is but I can almost hear Mankey's keyboard working the science and crunching the numbers as I type! For you though, can I be nosey and ask the reason behind the question; is it purely academic interest or is there a practical application you're look...

Re: Spring

Fabulous, thanks both of you (Dave and Dunc) for that - this is my first season so these tips are invaluable for me. I'm around 1500 gallons only but I'll ensure I make an accurate volume calculation taking the filter and small vegi-stream etc into consideration before I dose with anything at all. I...

Re: Spring

Dave, any chance you could describe your 30% PP protocol in a step-by-step post so that a beginner like me can see what's involved and what the benefits are? The beer drinking protocol I've got sorted already :-)

Thanks, M

Re: Recharging a dechlorinator

Thanks for the tip Manky. I think I'll purchase a new one anyway just to be on the safe side, but I Like the idea of seeing what's inside and if there's a way of refilling I'll give it a try and post the trial here as you suggest. Thanks again, M

Recharging a dechlorinator

Novice asking for advice again. I've currently got an Evolution Aqua in-line dechlorinator/activated carbon filter which has been running non-stop for 8 months or so and it's running perilously close to the manufacturers limit of 300,000 litres. Does anyone know if you can refill these units with re...

Re: Anoxic filtration

Hi Dave, I'm seriously looking at the anoxic filter system for my small 1500gal yard pond. I'm currently managing with a 2 chamber (brushes+jap mat) filter that has worked remarkably well but cleaning it is a laborious and messy procedure. I'm constrained by the fact that there's no room in the back...

Re: Midges & Mozzies!

Thanks Manky, I'm hoping as the garden matures and the plants and shrubs become a bit more established that I'll be able to attract some of the small birds we used to get in before I made the alterations to the house and back yard. We used to get the odd swift or swallow early in the evening darting...

Midges & Mozzies!

Gents, Ladies, Does anyone have a solution for an annoying problem that I just can't seem to rid myself of? I've got a raised pond, approximately 3 and half foot deep and 1500 gallons with bottom drain leading to a 2 bay filter (brushes/jap matting). Helping with the filtration is a 12ft x 1ft x 1ft...
