Following on from an earlier post I think I'm going to convert my 36" primary vortex into an easy. It won't be done for a couple of months yet as I want tht weather to warm up a bit and filters wll have to be off for most of the day. I was thinking, would it be better to place a square shaped e...

Re: Can you have to much Filtration?????

I heard this before from koi keeping colleague that ives quite close to me. What sort of size filters would we be talking, in your opinion, would be too big for a pond. We could use mine as an example. 4200 g....... 130 ltrs aerated K1 in first bio, second bio is is exactly same as first, third bio ...

Re: How Much Air in the Pond?

Hi Guys I’m in the middle of a spin off thread to this which I started at work today but briefly you need some help here. I mentioned or implied you can have to much air and that’s very true but only in so much as the unneeded air is redundant to saturation but that’s assuming the extra air is not ...

Re: How Much Air in the Pond?

My turn First vortex is 130 ltrs K1 with 40 ltrs of air, second vortex is identical to the first.......... third vortex is large j mat cartridge with 80 ltrs of air, but this may all change very soon. BD has 40 ltrs of air and I also put a large jap stone in pond in summer which also has 40 ltrs of ...

Re: question for Duncan

Thanks Duncan, my only problem is that the small vortex 24" wouldn't be able to handle 130 ltrs of K1. It wouldn't have the room to fluidise properly. An Idea for you Turn primary vortex into an easy as you've suggested and then put as much K1 into 24" vortex as possible and then remaining...

Re: question for Duncan

question for Duncan

Duncan, with all the talk of BHM, RO, etc, what do you think is the best way to filter a pond ?
eg, keeping all parameters spot on and an environment where the koi will thrive and want to feed with as little contaminants/waste in the pond as possible ?

Re: BHM - Why?

I've got a reply from the source of the pumice and a sample will be winging it's way to me soon. They can supply a grade with pieces of around 80mm, so we'll have to see what the stuff is like! How many boxes of BHM do you think you'll need to make a cubic metre? Rough guess ?.... 12-15 boxes. Ther...
