Re: OK! Why Koi(s) are so expensive?

Ahhha, good answer.

My answer is similar; Not all koi are expensive - I've got a couple in my pond that must be worth all of eight or nine quid!!

Re: Expanding pond.

Hi Tobs, I'm pretty new to this so have limited experience compared to everyone else. Like you I upgraded my poxy, preformed, water container (mine was barely more than that) to something more like a decent pond about a year ago. I'd been wanting to do it for years but never had the time or confiden...

Re: Curing ulcers

Ref my post above; The following is an explanation of how this stuff is supposed to work - written by someone who sells it! Apologies for quoting from another forum, I don't want to break any rules but I think these claims are bogus and just wanted confirmation or otherwise from you guys because you...

Re: Curing ulcers

Hi Dunc, just seen this link on another forum and the skeptic in me wanted an expert's opinion:
http://www.nishikigoiyearbook.com/produ ... re-bottle/
Have you seen this before and are it's claims even possible?
Thanks, M

Re: On going problems during 2012/2013

Thanks Manky, I think I get your drift. So, the high reading at the end of a sunny day is the pond's natural level, in my case today that would be at the very top end of the acceptable norm at pH 8.98. My Kh is low at the moment at somewhere between 3 and 4DH. So, if I've done my sums right, that wo...

Re: On going problems during 2012/2013

Update. I took the baskets out yesterday pm just to make sure that any limestone chips in there weren't skewing the results. Today, comparative tests taken at the same time of day showed very similar results: 10pm last night, pH 8.36; this morning 9am, pH 8.10; just now 12:50, pH8.62 and rising. So ...

Re: On going problems during 2012/2013

Apologies for reviving an old thread chaps. I've been trying to find out some information on why pH levels might vary throughout the day. Dave's post above almost exactly describes my current situation. From being blissfully unaware of any pH fluctuations from a rock steady 7.5 using my test kit/col...

Re: Anoxic filtration

The tights idea has worked a treat! :D Baskets back in the pond and hopefully beginning to create some of that anoxic action in the near future. The pH level has also settled back to something approaching normal too, thank goodness! The colour chart on my test kit equates to 7.5 tonight but in order...

Re: Anoxic filtration

Update: Not much progress I'm afraid :-( The weather's been rubbish most of the week and I've had other tasks keeping me occupied some of which included updating the electrics in the garage where the filter and stuff live which took me longer than anticipated (there's a pattern developing in my post...

Re: Anoxic filtration

Manky, just a quick question for you if you don't mind me asking. With reference to the Anoxic Filtration article on your website, when making up the biocenosis baskets you have a couple of diagrams that suggest the placement of the laterite, or JBL Aquabasis Plus in my case, goes in the middle of t...

Re: Anoxic filtration

Thanks Manky, I won't get too hung up on the flow rate then and so long as I'm turning the pond volume over at least once every hour the bugs will do their stuff. :)

Re: Anoxic filtration

Hi Dave, Re sinking the RDF into the ground; Nah, the filters live in the garage and it's a concrete floor - I'm not chipping out any of that just for the Oase when there's others that do the job equally well. As it happens, I sent an email earlier this week to Select Nishikigoi Intl and got a reply...
