Re: Question about gill flukes

Thanks for the speedy reply Duncan, I am treating with flubenol BUT if it does not sort them out wanted to know how long to leave it before trying an alternative. looks like they will be in the tank for a while then. One well known dealer states that he treats with flubenol 1 week and prazi the foll...

Question about gill flukes

Duncan, can the gill fluke eggs stay on the koi? I ask as we have acquired some koi with the odd gill fluke, ie 3 koi..... 1 gill fluke found. So we were hoping to nuke these in the Q tank before they go into the pond but as they are new in and treated as they arrived I am hoping the adult flukes wi...

Re: Safe interval for treating

Well I for one don't think malachite is benign..... far from it - it is probably the most toxic long lasting chemical we have ever had the misfortune to use.....if it isn't killing parasites then sorry there is no place for it in the pond, there are safer alternatives to sorting out secondary issues...

Re: Dose rate check please.

We to have sufferred dreadfully after dosing with FMG....... Interestingly research - after the event- (hindsight is a wondorous thing!) reveals longstanding issues with malachite.... From 1 of the 1st hits.. "Add 100 ml of Proform C for every 1000 gallons of water to be treated. This dosage le...

Re: Safe interval for treating

Well seem to have got away with dosing less than 7 days after using PP. However couple of questions, I read that malachite stays green (Blue in our pond) when the water is acidic. I have tested twice- 2 kits and our pH is 7.5 or 7.8 depending on test kit so 4 days into the FMG the pond remains quite...

Re: Safe interval for treating

I read the bible and you can redose FMG if its kill or cure quite quickly so nothing to loose but more koi and have FMG'd the pond after big water change and good flush out of the system. We had neutralised the PP anyway due to the koi gasping at the surface after about 4 hours. Well PP killed a koi...

Safe interval for treating

I know people recommend dosing with PP the day before using fluke treatment for stubborn fluke but how soon can you dose with FMG after using PP? Found whitespot as well as the trich now.....so really need to nuke that before losing any more koi. Thanks in advance. Jane PS Pond is at 20*C so quite w...

Re: Trich

Hi yes thanks, also got the book. This strain has a bit of a reputation for being hard to get rid of.....even dealers are saying its getting hard to shift it, and clearly it is! I have been trying to just let them live with a few but too many knocks and scrapes for my liking even though the numbers ...

Hi, I said the Kusuri were really accurate, annoyingly so! The API are accurate enough, you can get zero with API when a Kusuri will stay 0.1 mg/l... so IMHO API are quite accurate enough you still have a reading so the filters are not yet recovered from the nuking they have had from the PP, enough ...

Hi Billy Boy, As you are in Notts next time you are near Castle Marina call into ....dare I say .....Pets at Home! In their aquarium section they sell API test kits I think you get over 150 tests for £5:00. They have the GH & KH kit as well for about the same price. Failing that Bardill stock...

Is the nitrite reading the lowest that kit shows up? If memory serves me the Tetra kit is not very sensitive and that level is enough to make them flash. Aquarium pharmaceutics liquid kit is really cheap and very accurate, almost as accurate as the more expensive Kusuri kit, which will register minu...

IMHO have a really good look for Costia as this seems to be able to survive repeated PP doses these days. IF found use FMG.

Also the probes do not last for ever.... We have just replaced ours as it no longer showed the expected high when cleaning with H2O2, also bought some calibration fluid - the plan being to check how far aout the old probe was. Interestingly it still showed 400 in the calibration fluid but still fail...
