Some really good posts here. I like a lot of others cannot really understand what advantages BB filters give, so it's good to see happy users explaining it from the horses mouth so to speak.

Good post Dave, good to get an opinion from someone that is using one. I don't suppose you have any typical ORP or TDS readings for your pond? (I am curious to know what 'measured' cleanliness can be achieved with a good block system as yours obviously is)

you've again mentioned one of the main downfalls of a block filter as I see it Gazza, which is that muck in a large settlement chamber is still in the pond system. if this is only flushed once a week or even less, then surely the water cannot be as clean as a vortex/easy/nexus system that is usually...

Good replies all, I know each individual usually swears by one type of filtration and as Andy says that is usually influenced by the dealer they use. On any forum though you will find many Nexus users, Bubblebead users, home made easys etc, however it only seems to be the one site that swears by blo...

Block built filter debate

Hi all Like many of you on here I browse around a few different forums, and I have noticed that many members of the ****** forum use or are planning to build block built filters with large settlement chambers - So, what does everyone think about them, and have any members here got them on their pond...

I got a cheap 7000lph Hailiea pump fom Ebay to try on my QT. For £24 brand new I thought I may as wll give it a go, well it's sat on the QT floor, the spraybar on the TT is just over 6ft up and I have measured the outflow at over 5000lph, which I am very impressed with. The one downside is that i...

Only just seen this and really want to join in but have nothing that small and my QT is now semi - dismantled! Decisive action needed! I haven't even started building my QT yet! Theres a nice space in the brick shed now though and I have a liner ordered! Going to block build it and run a home made ...

Made my own one of these this week, I had to start all over again with filtration etc after I removed the liner and glassed the pond earlier this year, so to all intents and purposes it's a new pond. I have been suffering badly with DOC, with huge amounts of foam, probably made worse by the 3000GPH ...

Im really impressed with how it works-k1 is great stuff, the biological stage looks like its maturing nicely-turning a light tan colour and is slightly less bouyant! Gazza you were right its easy once you get going-want to make another one now! K1 gets blooming ...

Great stuff, as Gazza said it's so easy to make your own K1 chambers and there are so many different ways of doing it. I have 150lts of K1 both fluid, static and some in a shower, it's great stuff and so easy to clean!

Your DIY job is also neater than mine!

Good stuff, i'm a little disadvantaged at the moment as I haven't got a growing on tank yet. I will have a brick shed with plenty of space in when I clean it out this week though! Looking forward to getting it done and getting some small fish from cuttlebrook, will give me something to do over the w...
