Re: Automatic feeder
Steve, Although I am neither Emma or AJ, I can answer your questions. On page 14 of their catalogue, it is described as..... `Superfish Batery-Operated Fish Feeder`. It goes on to say that it holds 3 litres of pellets, timable up to 4 times a day. If you want to order, the code is AFF2, and it`s £45...

Re: Pergola and more!
Tic, What you are after is green coated roofing felt, as used for your average garden shed. Being black bitumin based, if you cut it into Scotts scale shapes, you`ll get a `shadow line` effect round them, when viewed from ground level. However, having been virtually housebound since last December, u...

Tic.
Have you thought about getting a roll of green roofing felt? Only take you a couple of hours to cut all the scales out. Something to do for the winter.

Re: Pond Building Questions
Hi Colin, Welcome to the forum. :) Regarding your many questions on your planned tank, first off, I would say to go for a 4 inch bottom drain, as with the showers you will be needing as much flow as you can have. What I would suggest you might find very helpfull, is to have a look in the 14 pages of...

Re: Pond Cover Problems
Alan, Perhaps I`m missing something here?, but have you thought of covering all the leaking joints between the sheets with duct tape? You CAN buy purpose made plastic joining strips that the sheets just slide in to, that are used when building shed/conservatory roofs, but good old silver duct tape s...

Re: filters and returns
Hi Dave, I would have said that you want to keep the two circuits completely seperate, as, amongst other things, you wouldn`t want to be running the waterfall all year round. Too much cooling of the water. If you are going for a sieve before the biomax 50, you might have to get another for the other...

Re: Waste mater in suspension.
Russ, In a word............. yes. With the advent of aerated bottom drains, it has been seen that the air current first lifts the suspended matter to the surface, then pushes it outwards towards the edges of the pond. From there it falls to the floor, where it is then drawn into the bottom drain and...

Re: Aquamax solid handling Dry pump, any good ?
Russ, I think you`d be better off by connecting your bottom drain directly to your vortex, then connecting to whatever other filter you are thinking of using, THEN, fitting your pump to return the water to the pond. If you fit the pump straight on to the bottom drain, the first thing you would do is...

Re: bubbles
Russ,
If you scroll down the page, you`ll find there are 10 pages of past posts. Then if you go to page 10, there are a couple of good posts listed, `DIY Protein Skimmer` and `Protein Skimmer` which I think you`ll find tell you all you want to know about building your own.

Re: bubbles
Why me, You don`t say what your usual maintainance regime is, but most of us do at least a 10% water change a week. If something crops up. like your foam, a water change will always help, in conjunction with a cut in the amount of food you are giving the fish. As to what food to use, that`s a big qu...

Why me, Thanks for posting the picture, it makes life so much easier to actually SEE what you are talking about. I agree with Gerry, a bit too much protein in the water. Try cutting the amount of food you are giving them a bit, I think you`ll find it amazing the difference it`ll make. Thats the trou...

Re: bubbles
Hi Why Me, Welcome to Koiquest. You aren`t very clear in your question, are you? To my mind anyway. When you say that your bubbles do not disperse, are you talking about the air bubbles from the spindrifter, OR, are you talking about possibly bigger foamy type bubbles??? I`ve got this picture ...

Re: Filter Flow Rate
Hi Louie, You are trying to combine 2 different technologies I would say. I think what you have to bear in mind, is that the multi-bay filter (with vortex) is quite old technology, really. They were introduced 25 or so years ago, when we were all upgrading our filtration from the up-flow gravel/cant...

Re: pond cover
I wouldn`t have anthing galvanised anywhere near MY pond!!!! Galvanising is basicaly coating the steel with ZINC, which is a nasty stuff, and pretty lethal to fish. Even if it didn`t rain while you were away, there would still be a build up of condensation under the panel which would gradually drip ...
