I can turn off the falls at any time as I built them with a bypass which is valved controlled. But at present see no need to turn them down. I have a almost similar pond (2200 Gallons, in ground), and thats currently at 10.2C just by using 2, 300W aquarium heaters, one in the waterfal and one in the filter. Lowest its dropped this winter was 7.7C when it was -2 outside and that was with no cover, waterfall still on and air still going in...

I cut the exit pipe out of 68mm gutter and cut a hole in the side of the bin and used waterproof glue to attach and seal. so the pipe is permanently bonded through the bin wall. To allow movement and removal I used 3" silicon Turbo hose to connect the Bins pipes with the pipes that flow back to...

3" silicon turbo hose from any ebay car supplier will fit 68mm guttering perfectly and makes it easy to plumb, cheaper than pond fittings

Gutter down pipe is 68mm (3") thats what I'm using and geting backpressure problems. if you use it do NOT use the 90 deg bends as they ar the culprit

I am running 3" on my home made filter, similar size to yours and getting back pressure problems, so I wouldnt go 2"

If glass went opaque that quick then everyone with an aqaurium would be pretty stuffed!

Sounds more like they dont sell windows and dont want you going to another dealer
