Re: help with filter mod

Hi there, First of all, welcome to the site, I think you`ll find that there is an absolute wealth of knowledge available here. Regarding your filters, I think you`re on the right track with what you are thinking about, but can I suggest a couple of modfications to your plans? To have a proper vortex...

Re: Pond filling

Hi Dobber, I think what you need to do is work out the cubic capacity from your ponds dimensions, LxWxD. Dependant on what system you measure in, English or foreign, (you can tell which age group I belong to,can`t you  ), that will give the figures for how much soil you need to fill the hole. C...

Re: Air Up Lifts

Hi Lee, Welcome to Koiquest. :) You have got the wrong idea of `airlifts`, I`m afraid. The whole idea is to find a way of moving water into your filter, without having the running costs of a pump. It also does away with the need for a bottom drain. If you go to page one of this thread, `vippymini` h...

Re: electronic blanketweed eliminators

Hi Harry, I would steer clear of putting anything copper into a pond myself, copper is a bit deadly for Koi over anything more than minute levels. The idea of having electrodes disolving into the water, sends chills up my spine. Might be effective in a goldfish pond, as they are known to be a lot ha...

Re: electronic blanketweed eliminators

Hi Fishy, So, despite Justin and me both advising you against these things, you`re still interested eh? How does it work you ask, well, I`ll tell you the theory of what is supposed to happen. The thing itself is a little box of electronics, 10cms by 6cms, that you are advised to screw to a wal...

Re: electronic blanketweed eliminators

Fishy Absolute garbage, don`t waste your money. Thinking back, I thought to myself "I had one of those from when they first appeared on the koi market, I`ll have a look in the cupboard." Guess what, I`ve still got it! A Water King Electronic Blanketweed Controller, and unbelievably, inside...

Re: Expanding Foam

Is it polyurethane foam? If so, yes you can fibreglass directly on to it, as Maurice did when he built his pond. Take a look at his build at http://www.koi-uk.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; scroll down and click on his articles page. The one you want is `new pond 1`, ...

Re: UV qurtz glass degradation

Hi Flemming, I wouldn`t worry too much about changing your tubes regularly, I would say that what you have been reading is a sales pitch. Really, it all depends on your source water, and wether or not there is a lot of calcium in it. It is this that can form a film over the glass surface, and so red...

Re: Timer on skimmers

Canvey, There`s the old expression springs to mind, "don`t believe everything you read". All sorts of people post all sorts of opinions and theories, some good, but an awful lot bad. The first question I would ask when being told that `something had been read`, is who is responsible for th...

Hi Chris. Thanks for advice is pergola still standing today, also how often do you nead to reaply sadolin. Taxikoi Hi Taxikoi, Yes, it`s still standing, and good as it was, fabric as well. Having initially given the wood two GOOD coats of sadolin, I`ve never had to re-do it since. And it was Sadoli...

Re: pergola

Hi Taxi, When I built MY pergola, must be around 20 years ago now, all I used was plain old untreated pine/softwood. A couple of coats of Sadolin wood preserver stuff, and that was it. Its easiest to treat the wood before assembling the pergola, to make sure that no drips fall into the pond, and it ...

Hi Jules,

My thinking, is to prevent as much water as possible from getting into the airline.

The lower pressure air pumps tend to struggle clearing the lines, I`ve found.

Re: Tricky BD Problem.... Help Please!!

Can you find a friend who has a bigger pump? Connect up, blast through, then quickly swap your pump back again. Sorted. :D Chris (another one) Oh yes, and next year, when the water warms up a bit, get in the pond and fit a non-return valve in the air line, as close to the drain as you can, so it`ll ...
