Re: What good is GH?
This is a good question for those still struggling with the chemistry and science of water, I would love to an RO unit but do not feel qualified enough to do this as yet, so having questions like this help. I had a call to add bi-carb as I had moved to a very soft water area with hardly any GH or KH...

Hi Koiette I am so sorry you and Glenn are having problems with your magnificant pond, it is such a shame when things go wrong, and anyone who has been in the possition of problems with a pond will understand. Mr Mankey Sanke seems of hit the nail on the head with his suggestions. Giving the fibregl...

Re: BACTERIAL PROBLEMS
Hi You are right Gazza what looked like a small mark as turned into something really bad, the areas where the scales where pulled and treated dont look so agressive at the moment but this Kohaku has fooled me before with it lloking a lot better then goodness only knows what happened. The tail which ...

Hi Dave I am so pleased that your Sanke is doing so well, and no matter how strong her will to live is without the right care and attention she would proberly never of made it, so you have a lot to be proud of. It is amasing how some Koi are just so much more determined to survive, Gazza has said ab...

BACTERIAL PROBLEMS (he has died)
Hi All I have a couple of issues with a Kohaku, he had what looked like white lumps on his tail and a couple of red marks on his side. I also had a Chagoi who seemed to have gone a bit to far into the skimmer and had damage to both sides just past the gill plates. I treated the pond with CT a couple...

Re: Salt & nitrite poisoning
Hi Dave A reading of that amount will be diluted by water changes, which I know you are doing at the moment, if the Koi seem happy which they done by coming to the top and feeding then I wouldn't worry about it to much. Also the readings can vary during the day, so maybe you have a slightly higher r...

Hi Duncan you could try periodic Chloramine T doses help keep the bacterial levels down May I ask how would you do this, do you a full 3 day course or a do a CT treatment say once every couple of weeks. Just wondering as I am following another post about the use of CT and I am trying to learn as muh...

Re: Chloramine T & new additions
Hi Dave I dont know if this will help you at all, but I had a Chagoi who had some really nasty marks on her sides (skimmer injury) with the 3 day course of CT the marks had cleared up really well. Another Koi a Kohaku which has caused me some worries, the marks were not quite as well healed after the...

Re: Chloramine T & new additions
Hi Dave I have to agree with Gazza, with Duncan on the case you couldn't get better advise, but I have to admit I trust Gazza so much and I know he will help as much as he can. Hi Duncan Can I ask, would you still topically treat this wound with the amount of healing that is showing or would you say...

Re: Chloramine T & new additions
Hi Dave I have to agree that healing does look like it is taking place and it looks to be doing really well, like you I would wonder now how far to go with the topical treatment. Cleaning and treating is only going to disturb the new skin growth, but I am sure Gazza or Duncan will know the best rout...

Hi John To be honest as it was only a trial, I have ended it as it was really to small to make any real differance but there was an increase of 1 degree and the tempreture held for longer going into the night. But the princible worked. Considering it was a very small mock up I was very pleased with ...

Re: Strange Health Situation
Hi Dan Glad to hear things are clearing up for you and the Koi are improving. You may never get to the bottom of what caused this but you will have learnt a lot from this episode, I know it doesn't help a great deal while going through it but when you come out the other side still have all your Koi ...
