The Koi hobby seriously threatened in Spain

Hello, after some years whithout posting here, sadly I'm back again with very bad news. The current situation of the whole Koi habby in Spain is Desperate. The common carp and all its subspecies and varieties have been included in the Spanish list of invasive species. If koi are not excluded from th...

Re: Blanket weed solution in sight?

Hi Scott, what is somewhat puzzling to me is that you state a high rate of water changes, was it something like 5000 liters per week? And your pond was around 13000 to 15000 liters? If that is correct my guess is that the concentration of Zinc in the water must be very low indeed. My question is if ...

Re: Blanket weed solution in sight?

Hi Scott, I have been busy this breeding season and have not visited the forum in months. But today I read your post. I recall your previous post concerning blanket weed control after your Answer to Static K1 filter mod. Now, I find extremely interesting your new observations and your hypothesis abo...

Hi Gazza! I'm sorry, there was a little mistake in the link, the last figure was not included.
Anyway, I have edited the message and corrected the link, now it works OK.

Hi Bob! Maybe you don't remember me. We actually met during Cuttlebrook KoiQuest day in may 2007, I was that spaniard who landed over there. http://www.elkoi.es/elkoi2010/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=123:visita-a-cuttlebrook-koi-farm-&catid=65:visitas-y-reuniones&Item...

video: first "airlift driven" Koi pond in Spain

Hello again, this other video features the very first Koi pond in Spain running just on air thanks to airlifts. It has been successfully running just on air during the last three years and a half, with just two Secoh 40 air pumps from may till mid october, and only one during the rest of the year. I...

video: huge koi pond running just on air (airllifts)

Hi! It has been quite a long time since my last post in this forum. Hope you will like this new video I've uploaded to my video channel in Vimeo. It features a 85000 liters Koi pond (18697 UK gallons) with a filtration system running just on air, with a massive water flow of 72000 liters/hour (15834...

Re: Airlift update: Koi pond running just on air

my friend invested many hours testing different airlift design and sizes, and different ways to modify his original filtration system (Ultrasieve II, Sequence pump, aerated K1 biofilter) to make it work by airlifts. Seaking for simplicity and efficiency, but constrained by his pond features, he fina...

Airlift update: Koi pond running just on air

I received a private message from a member of this forum. He was asking for updated info on the airlift system and pond that I described sometime ago in this Forum (http://www.koiquest.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5412" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). I believe it co...

Re: Air Up Lifts

Hi, I wish I could writte up a more clear english version, but I'm rather busy. Concerning airlift pipe size: what I can say is that Frutos has been doing a lot of empirical test, and he currently fully advises 110 mm pipe, however making clear that the airlift outlet must be placed just under water...

Re: Air Up Lifts

Hi, you can have access to another article with several pictures showing the filtration system of Fruto's pond, fully air driven. I'm very sorry it is available only in spanish, but hopefully you will find that just the system sketch and the pictures are worthwhile to see. Basically he's got 4 airli...

Re: Air Up Lifts

Well, in our experience it's better just to dump off the usual manyfolds and 8 mm air lines. Switching to bigger size PVC pipe and air lines allows you to get more air delivered by the same air pump. I can't remember right now the exact pipe metrics we are using, maybe tomorrow I can tell exactly. A...
