Re: Indoor Koi

Andy, I started twenty plus years back with a couple of small koi in a tank and wouldn't recommend doing it.They take very little time to outgrow the tank, eat incessantly, and foul the water at an alarming rate. They look great for a couple of months and then all the cleaning, water changing, and feedi...

Re: GOLDEN TENCH,ANYONE HAVE THEM PLEASE?

I am hoping that someone on this forum will say "TENCH DO CLEAN UP GREAT!!" ?????? Won't happen because it doesn't happen.I have both golden and green tench in my pond and the bottom gets cleaned by the pump and filters. The fish make it dirty. All fish.Any fish. The golden tench is essenti...

Re: 2"Hosetails

If it's the 2" flexi I'm thinking of (sort of flat-ish on the outside) then it is solvent welded directly into a normal fitment (like a 90 bend or a valve body). It has the same outside dimensions as the solid pipe so all joints you can do with solid pipe are possible with this stuff. Don't thin...

Re: The weather!! a newbie worries, will they die????

Good stuff.

Your old Butyl, however thick it is,is composed of organic material (mainly latex and carbon)that is subjected to a heat treatment.Your new EPDM liner is 100% synthetic polymer fake rubber and deteriorates at a minuscule rate compared to butyl.

Re: Plastic Bubblewrap ?

I like a bit of room between the cover and the water for those times when a koi decides to have a little leap (and they always do at some point)

This now also has a couple of layers of fleece fitted.

Re: The weather!! a newbie worries, will they die????

I have to decide on the Butyl liner now.I thought there was only one type when we built the other Koi pond, but it seems there are different qualities. Use Firestone EPDM 1.0mm.Ask for it by name, say it's for a koi pond when buying it,and keep the receipt. It should be smooth to the touch and not tex...

Re: Aquamax Eco failure. Suggestions?

IMHO, I would look at the electrics rather than the water delivery to try and find the fault. Yup,me too.Aquamax pumps are proven to be so reliable that to have 6 fail in the same way consecutively points directly at a variable or faulty electric supply being the cause.I would have checked it after...

Re: Aquamax Eco failure. Suggestions?

Diego, Your friends set up is almost identical to mine.My 12,000 Eco is pumping up around 900mm to the filter and turns over around 9,000 litres at that head. There is absolutely no cause here for pump failure in the way he has it set up. I would concentrate more on the electrical supply particularly...

Re: water beetles have eaten my 35 year pond liner.

I had two liners eaten by Caddisfly Larvae. Both of them were expensive Butyl liners bought from a local koi establishment as koi pond liners. Both were riddled with several hundred holes along the fold lines.I took the hit on the first one (four and a half years) but got a bit miffed when the next o...

Re: trickle ?

Since fitting a home made shower with the media above water level I've been able to trap loads of stuff by settlement in the bottom.Nice and easy to see and flush.

So I vote for airborne media and the settlement tank approach.

Re: Pump - do I leave it running?

I'm of the opinion that the longer you can leave it set up and running with no fish in then the longer it will have to establish a biofilm on all the available surfaces making it easier for the system to get going fully when fish are introduced. If everyone left the pond running empty for a couple of...

Re: Koi-Pond RE-VAMP ????

How do I test for wear or holes if they`re tiny Look closely at the reverse side, especially down the inside of any folds. That's where both of mine failed. One did three and a half years and the next less than three. Both had "lifetime guarantees".As it was sold as a koi pond liner and clear...

Re: Koi-Pond RE-VAMP ????

Should I make the bottom "Spirit-level" flat or do I need a Gradient where the B-Drain will be going Makes sense to have a gradient mio.Whether a bottom drain or a submersible pump it helps to use gravity to move the heavy stuff down to it.I use a submersible (Aquamax 12000) with an airst...
