Re: opening up koi ultrazone

Duncan, Trust you are OK. Not logged in for a while as been doing some other stuff away from koi and trying to spend less time on the PC these days. Glad the decision was made to leave Koi Ultra "Private" as there are certain subjects i have commented on that i simply NEVER would on a publ...

Re: What good is GH?

Hey Mark, I'm no scientist as you know - but I will offer an opinion. Sadly it falls back to the last thread on here we talked on. PH swings - It's all linked and cannot be any other way. I still think your trying to be too detailed in what is in your water. I am firmly in the RO is a plus for my po...

Re: Sleeping sickness

Dawn,

No experience of sleeping sickness - my advice would be to speak to one of the two major UK koi breeders for advice as to what to do Maurice Cox @ Koi UK or Mark Davis @ Cuttlebrook. Sure they will both know how to act.

Re: Dose rate check please.

Dom, Need the bigger picture here now. What have you done to the pond recently in terms of anything added? and i mean anything? BW treatments, chemicals, new koi, filter changes. If it was me i would have that top up tap "wide open" getting as much fresh water in that pond as necessary and...

Re: Dose rate check please.

Dom,

They picked up yet? If you haven't already do a 15% water change today this should help them brighten up.

Re: Ph Swings

Mark, Your right, I am in the lucky position of not needing to worry about how much water I use or what it costs. So this enables me to change a high rate which gives me great stability in the pond and do whatever I need to in order to keep the readings I want. Never tested for phosphate Nitrate is ...

Re: Ph Swings

There is no doubt about it if your GH value is less than your KH value then your swings are due to algae and photosyntheses during the night the algae takes in Oxygen and releases CO2 this forms carbonic acid lowering your pH, during the day algae takes in CO2 and releases Oxygen raising the pH thi...

Re: Ph Swings

Mark, Totally ignore Andy's situation that i touched on above. Take the line below out of the post above:- In Andy's case i wonder if the rapid "shed" of algae and the subsequent drop in levels has led to a build up of waste in the large settlement and this has in turn meant a production o...

Re: Ph Swings

Mark, Important here to remember we are not just talking "wall" algae - the free swimming stuff will also affect the PH. Eg:- Full sun and photosynthesis will take place and this will cause swings. IMO even with the UV on as it will not keep up with the natural process in most ponds on rea...

Re: 37% Formaldehyde

Andy,

at 16-18deg C i would be leaving 5 CLEAR days between doses. Then a 15% water change before re-treating.

Re: 37% Formaldehyde

Personally I have never had an issue using these dose rates for 35/37% formalin in the past. Can I guarantee you wont? - NO - but just my experience says to use those dose rates in my pond is OK. I guess you could always minus 7% from the volume you need to use to treat but most treatments have a &q...

Re: Made my own Paste Food

Gazza, Each one of those "balls" is approx 120grams - my thoughts are once a week at present. Then another meal once a week of the Shinji paste. Giving me approx 4 or 5 x 250g feeds per day of the chosen pellets i use. Then one of those replaced with a paste feed (Shinji) Then another on a...
