Re: Nexus or Bakki Shower

Hi where abouts do you live in the UK, as a trip to Darren at A4 KOI might be a solution to help make your decision, or to one of his many customers that have showers installed.

Re: Filter Upgrade & Heater Install

Looking good, you have been a busy boy.

I cant recall how the thermostat worked, because I used it on 4000 gallons so it never really reached optimum temp.

Fish are still feeding well and temp is naturally creeping up......was 18.5 today.

Only use K1 as I had problems with sinking bio chips and got a full refund from EA.

Re: Solar pump for DIY Solar heater

By using solar to heat your pond, could you end up with vast temperature variations during day/night. I realise you get this with normal sun on the pond, but possibly not to the extent you may have?

Re: Do water pumps work in series?

You might struggle because flow rate is also controlled by the size of the pipe.
Are you suggesting running two pumps of X ltr through one single pipe of 1.5"?

Re: Bacteria house media

I use a bolster chisel, but make sure you rinse it before putting it into the showers as you will get small particles that end up on the pond floor.

Re: Bacteria house media

I personally do not think anything compares to Momotaro BHM. With regards filtration, I ran a 4000 gall pond with a 4 tier single set using 7 boxes of BHM (BHM broken into 3 pieces) and pumped 15000 ltr over it and also had a single Nexus. I got pretty good growth even with that. The whole idea of B...

Re: Creating a "still return"

Hi I am running 27000 litres over the side of the pond without too many problems. What I have done is put a 45 deg elbow that is below the water level, but have a large hole in the top of the elbow to get red of excess air. What you can also do is put in a vertical pipe a bit like a chimney in the r...

Just build a cover around them and keep them on, or put them indoors.
Speak to or visit Darren at A4KOI, he is just down the road from you.

Re: Nexus air solutions?

But the standard Nexus with the correct air pump ciculates the correct amount of K1, why faff around modifying something that might have a problerm if not working correctly from manufacture?
Poorly circulating K1 can cause bacteria problems.....trust me i have been there.

Re: Nexus air solutions?

When this happened to my 300 it was because of crud build up below the air ring, so you may need to remove all K1 and clean out the complete unit.

Re: pipes from pumps

Yep, solvent weld is the answer.
You either kink it to run on the bottom, which can collect debris, or raise it so fish can swim under.

I would suggest you actually speak to your Insurer or Broker as they would have visited the site initially before taking on the PL risk. You might find it could reduce your premiums if covered.

Re: New pond build... really quite a lot of advice needed!

Hi, thank you all for the great response. Bob, Luton is a little far but I might yet take you up on that kind offer at a later date if I get stuck. It certainly would help to be able to see these things. I suspect my pond will in reality be about 8,000 litres, and I know even that'd be pushing the ...
