Dho, no not totally serious about underbed sand filter, though they have been the answer to in pond filtration in the 70’s. Out of pond within an enclosed system the debris that builds up on them is actually beneficial to the filtering process, but the down side is the physical surface area n...

How would it be approached by industry? This link explains the mathematics of se...

hi kim, thanks for your support. With this spawning I used 3 males, as mentioned before. however they left a lot of milt in the water which smells real bad and has congealed into a stringy mess. I have been trying to trickle in fresh water, but I've been unable to remove it by hand as the new fry ar...

At the weekend I moved my ochiba girl and 3 boys to a 1200 gallon pool to ready them for spawning. It is the same water as the main pond and uses the same filter. the main pool is at 20 / 21 degrees, the idea being to raise the temp up to 24 degrees in the small pool for the week to rippen her up. i...

thanks for the advice maurice, however i suspect not many of the eggs will have been fertilized as on day one the water was milky/cloudy i assume from the milt but on day two when she was releasing the eggs the water was clear apart from the floating foam. I think my lads must have run out by...

well she finaly released her eggs, not as many as expected. but this is the first time she has spawned. She still looks large and to be carrying eggs. I will wait and see how things develop with the fry and decide later on in the year whether to pair her again.

She is now very tired and is lying low resting up. The two males are now nudging each other d...
