Re: Advice on Easy pod and vortex chamber

.......Does this mean that it is not a good idea to have planted biocensis baskets in the pond at all? In my ideal pond I'd have them exactly as described in Kevin's book and Mankey's articles, but my pond had already been built when I first stumbled upon the anoxic filter system (AFS) principles a...

Re: Advice on Easy pod and vortex chamber

I'm not sure if this will help with the planning - I might have completely the wrong idea about how your pond is going to look from your picture - but on first look I thought this could work with a bit of tinkering....

Re: Advice on Easy pod and vortex chamber

Tesco Low Dust Cat Litter 10l pack for £3.75 does one basket - make sure you rinse the hell out of it though, the pink stuff is harmless but it'll make your pond water look like some horrible crime has been committed in it! API laterite is like rocking horse $4it to get hold of and when I wa...

Re: Advice on Easy pod and vortex chamber

Hi Narwhal. Uploading pictures is a bit of a 6allache: first make a copy of your photo so you don't mess up the original then edit/resize the copy so the file size is no bigger than 200Kb and save it somewhere you can get to it easily (I normally stick mine temporarily on the desktop). When you're r...

Re: Advice on Easy pod and vortex chamber

Hi mate, what are your plans ultimately regarding fish stock? I'm not any kind of expert and I don't have any experience of using an Easy pod so can't help with your question directly, but unless you're only ever planning to have a very small number of koi in your pond I'm willing to bet you'll want...

Re: What's the latest on Dermocystidium?

Hi Trace, I'm sure Duncan or Manky will be able to best advise you here as this is way beyond my limited experience. However, I did a quick Google to see what Dermocystidium was and found this forum article which may (or may not) be of some background use to you: https://www.pond-life.me.uk/forum/vi...

Filter plumbing

Hi all, at long last I've got a day or two to finish off the work needed to connect my anoxic filter system (AFS) tank to the rest of the pond's plumbing system and I'm just after a bit of confirmation that my thought process isn't flawed. I'll put up a diagram below so you can see what I'm on about...

Re: New Pond

...keeping a constant trickle... I'll need to run waste water pipework to a drain then. Yep, but well worth the effort/expense in my opinion - either that or if you've got a decent sized garden you could run your overflow pipe to irrigate the veg patch(?) I know it seems daunting at this stage as y...

Re: New Pond

Hi Steve, a pergola's a nice touch and something I wish I'd done too. I'm not sure it'll help with water clarity though, other than preventing leaves and stuff dropping in but what it may help with is providing some shade which is good. Providing shade will help keep your water temperature a bit mor...

Re: New Pond

Hi again. Ok, last question first; box liner - on the plus side they're quick and easy to install, no creases etc and ideal if your pond is an awkward shape. On the down side, they're more expensive than a simple EPDM length of liner and your measurements have to be accurate - if you cock it up ther...

Re: New Pond

Hi Mate, an 8ft x 7ft x 5ft volume of water works out at a smidgeon under 1750 UK gallons which is a reasonable size in my book (mine's around 1500). It's worth having a look at as many ponds as you can before deciding on how to design/build your own as the devil is always in the detail and you'll s...

Re: Koi wounds

Hi Ian, just so the guys can rule a few things out can you say how big your tank is, how it's filtered and what your water parameters are? Also a good, clear picture of the fish's wound might be helpful to see how advanced the injury is. Cheers, M
