Re: Which is better; hard water or soft water?
I think that if you select koi on it, they could over generation get shimi spots in hard water a lot better (as in non-existing). But, they don't select on that in Japan, since they don't have hard water there. If we look at Israel, here they have still a long way to go to produce Hi Quality fish, B...

Re: RO water ?
I was wondering, do you guys use a reverse osmosis machine to take the anions-kations out of the water, you do you guys use a demi installaion ( ion exchange with cation and anion resins), because with high volumes, the 2e option seems cheaper.

Re: Oyster shells
Ok, but if i use NaHCO3 for the KH and CaCL2 for the GH, i am actually adding salt to my pond, and I have some plants who cope very bad with even small salinity.
I calculated -> going to KH 10 & GH 10 (from KH 3 and GH 2) is like adding 200g salt / m^3.

Re: Supertab
One more thing, when talking to a tab water employee, he told me that here we actually use CLO2 to chlorate the tab water. This is weird because there are many articles about de-chlorinating the tab water, and here a manufacturer actually promotes adding chlorate to the water. Does the chlorate adde...

Oyster shells
Hi,
Do you guys use oyster shells in your pond avoid having no more KH in the pond ? (I have very soft source water here)
The GH get's a boost too by using it.
CaCO3 + H20 -> Ca++ HCO3- OH-
p.s. yes i know I know NaHCO3 dissolves better

"Can someone point me to the posts, links to sites etc that analysed how these treatments worked and what the ingredients were please. I recall reading it somewhere but cant remember where." I would also like to read up on how the different (anti-algae) products work, if anyone has a link ...

Re: neutering koi
Hmm, I was just looking for a technical answer, not a moral debate. Anyway, where do you place the border, pulling a scale , cutting a tancho ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AyAW_Kz4fM )or neutering. + each time you take your koi to a show, or each time you transport a koi, you put it at risk. (O...

Re: Supertab
KHV is a virus, it looks logic that it would not work against that (nor has it ever been promoted to me for that purpose). But it is supposed to be effective against bacteria (external), parasites, and to lower the bacterial pressure (by oxidation...). Our koi-veterinarian advices it to us (use mont...

Re: Supertab
Yea, like Virkon and Virasure I guesse. Altrough, I suppose, chemically different, it is used as disinfectant (by oxidation). Our local koi docter prescribes it to a lot of clients.

Any of you utilize it ? Supertab -> http://www.air-aqua.nl/nl_pages/nl_supertab.php#.U6AruShH6-U basically CLO2. (using it 1 mg/ 1000 l ) Thinking it would destroy the biofilter too, but it seems like the colonies there are so strong / repopulate so fast / ... that I don't measure any NH3 / N02 spik...

neutering koi
Hi, Maybe I am looking into things who are already done before, but I was wondering if we could see if there is a possibility to neuter a koi. I would like to see the effect on the development of the body of a 'male', hoping it would improve. I could look into removing/cutting the gonads surgically,...
