Re: New Pond

Your pond size will mean that the decision to heat will be a little easier and less costly. There are advantages to having a smaller pond.

Re: Expanding pond.

If time, space and money allows, go for a larger pond, you'll be digging out again in a couple of years if you don't do it now. Bottom drain a must along with a skimmer. Moving bed bio filtration which can be DIY and any number of mechanical filtration methods, brushes after a settlement chamber for...

Re: Praziquantel Treatment

Hello Dave, that's good news. Regarding the Chagoi, could it be water temperature related ? My mutts slowed down quite noticeably over the last couple of weeks with the cooler weather but with the recent rise in temps they have perked back up again, some more than others.

Mark.

Re: Praziquantel Treatment

Hello Dave. I used the same cocktail on a colleagues fish in July, same parasites, I did the two doses and happy to say no more issues since.

I don't know the effect on the fish during the treatments as I wasn't around and only had third hand reports.

Re: Is your purifier cartridge working?

Thanks,

A useful and informative post. Our water has had a 'chlorine smell' to it recently and I know that Severn Trent are laying new water main pipes in our area. I changed the carbon filter and added another carbon pod 'just in case'

I'll be buying them there DPD 4 tablets.

Re: Praziquantel discoveries

I didn't get chance to scrape her Koi until today, I pulled the Koi that I found the costia on and she's clean, no flukes, no costia. All Koi swimming about happily. She gave her filter (KK Multi Chamber) a good clean whilst I was away and today we did around a 30 % water change with Thiosulphate th...

Re: Use of UV lights.

Spooky, I've just wrote about my U/V experience on another forum. Something Geoff said to me on TTK got me thinking but I wanted the timing to be right i.e. some bloody sunshine ! Below is what I wrote. As an experiment to see how long it would take for my pond to turn green without a U/V, and to se...

Re: Praziquantel discoveries

Hello Duncan, Good to meet you yesterday. Well, as I explained yesterday. A colleague of my wife has a garden pond (approx 1800 gallons by my estimation) and she called my wife on Sunday morning to ask if I'd pop over to have a look at her Koi - mixed sizes and ages, as they was sat on the bottom an...

Done a quick Google, the price is eye watering. I'd hope for the cost it also removes shimmies, hikui and all known parasites.

Re: bleeding koi

When we had a photo shoot a few years back my ISA Showa bled in the bowl, I had never seen that before but I never bothered her again but she is very friendly and a big girl but past her best, I still enjoy seeing her every day. Regards Geoff Geoff, you could be describing my wife there  Mark.

Re: bleeding koi

Well.. I have a Gin Matsuba that bleeds from the gills even if I look at her funny. When I bought her home, a car journey that lasted 40 mins, she was totally pink and the water in the bag was bloody. She's obviously a Koi that is susceptible to stress and this is how she re-acts. She's since subseq...

Re: Very worried

Hello spags,

Where are you located ?

There maybe someone local who could give a hand / advice with the recommended treatments, I'm in Shropshire.

I wouldn't be panicking though looking at the picture you've posted and from what you've described.
