Re: here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two koi dead. Largest ones. No prior signs of issues. Would tend the probabilities towards an O2 issue as the highest probability issue.

Re: What is the optimal interval between feeds

Hm, not sure I can help on the science side, but for information: I feed heavily in the early morning and late evenings. Effectively a double to triple feed. I would spread these out a little further but the autofeeder is load and I try to be considerate to the neighbours! During the day, I feed eve...

She likes showa, has a great voice (if you like country), and not a disaster visually! Two out of 3 isn't bad. :)

Re: Mouth damage - treatment

phoxenol - you just need to ensure you dissolve it in the water in advance. It's a bit of a bugger to get dissolved. Prepare the bowl 10 mins in advance, stur, leave, stur, and you'll find the koi goes out quicker.

Re: Mouth damage - treatment

The MRF1 you work into the wound with cotton bud.

The lock/seal if you go that route then you "pour"/drizzle on as you don't want to work the MRF1 out of place.

Koi - it simply not sedated heavily enough - either not enough sedative or you are getting out for treatment too quickly.

Re: Mouth damage - treatment

Hi Ben I'm finding it really, really hard to make anything out on the photos prior to treatment as they are so out of focus. By foreign object - it could be anything... a sharp bit of twig, a sliver of fibreglass etc. I once found a showa with a piece of K1 embedded in the roof of its mouth (well ac...

Re: Mouth damage - treatment

Ben

Seems a bit odd for this to go on for so long. Seems a lot of jabs too for what should be on of the simpler repair jobs (with regards to area of damage).

Are you sure there's not some foreign object buried in there somewhere?

Re: strange marks ! ?

Odd, though it may seem, that appears to me to be maybe a pox variant. Looks at the centres and you see some evidence of "pox". That or it's rubbbed itself very well against something!

Re: thank you

Sad that you have been lost of the hobby, but good news for Polly.

I think my wife would be "very pleased" if I gave up the koi too.

Re: RO buffering-Bicarb or source water

Kev It depends a little on your source water. I can't buffer effectively using my source water as it has very low KH readings whilst having reasonable GH readings. You have a lot of KH content so can use source water. On the question of whether it is good to buffer with source water - well that depe...

Re: Persistant Trichodina

I would have thought that would have been good enough to keep the system running to be honest. Hence, my inclination that your TDS is being driven higher by more than just feed>waste cycle. I'm running 0.4 lpm RO and 0.1 lpm tap giving a TDS of about 70. Pond itself is running at 120 TDS. And, as yo...

Hm... so how much input water are you generating per day? and what ratio is your mix?

Your pond is 3k, yes?

Re: small tosai has sore on side

Carl Do not use H2O2 on the koi. You need to be very precise in the application and given you are asking questions you haven't done this before so it'll most probably go wrong It'll burn and kill surround surround scales. It's a different story if a head or gill plate injury or if there's a large ul...

Re: Persistant Trichodina

Greg Not sure with trich, but there are often different variants of each parasite. Some are knocked out easily, some are stubborn. Trich should be easy as there is no "protected egg" cycle involved - hence the single treatment. Anyway, at least the PP will be giving the koi's skin a "...

Re: Persistant Trichodina

Greg You have an odd scenario - trich returning repeatedly. You have an "odd" configuration - gutter water being returned to the pond, through lots of muck. Co-incidences are rare. Easy way to test your theory: 1/ Clean the gutter (done) and ensure it can't reroute to pond 2/ Treat again a...
