Re: New Book
Hi Dunc, I agree with Ed, perhaps a theory of filtration section. Pro's and cons of the various filter options. You could explain our mutual love of Jap matting!! It could start at the basics of the nitrogen cycle, through pond maturation and the ideal conditions for keeping koi. How about the pros ...

Re: some filter reading for you
Thanks Dunc,
This is a very serious subject, it will be good to read to try and understand how the pro's do it. Then maybe we can try to get it right.
Cheers

Re: Water Utopia
Greg, Thanks for bringing this thread back up to the top, I had hoped it would be a long discussion with all the RO users I know on this board adding their experience and Knowledge for us all to understand the science a little better. At present I have increased my mix water to bring the levels up a...

Re: Water Utopia
Hi Gazza, I realise that RO is not a magic wand, but how do we achieve the balance I am hoping for in my original question. Without the PH controller it has to be manually dosed with bicarb, which can be a bit hit and miss. I have also started using a mix but surely I am only adding in the impuritie...

Hi Ed, The readings on my pond are as follows: Tap (from purifier) - tds 205 RO unit - tds 5 Mix of above - tds 83 Summer pond level - 150 winter pond - below 100 I am trying to achieve best water quality without level swings and remove all the water nasties. I realise my setup is not right but I wa...

Water Utopia
Hi Guys, In recent weeks I have been checking out the forums and as usual the same old topics are coming up. Do I go RO, or just change water. Do I add clay and other conditioners? What should my factors be, should I be hard or soft. Well I pride myself on being a serious koi keeper and as many of y...

Damp powders
Hi Guys,
I have an impossible question for you, how much weight change is there when a dry powder gets damp? For example I have a pot of bicarb that has gone soft due to damp getting in. How much has that changed the weight of it.
thanks
Simon

Hi Stu,
Sad to hear about your loss mate, but thanks for taking the time to post the great quality autopsy pictures. I can't wait to hear what Dunc's thoughts are about what you have found.
Cheers

Hi guys, I have been looking at the pictures of this fish, and I have a stupid question. Is this fish actually deformed? In each of the pictures the spine looks bent to me, its tail is pointing up. I have only sen this before with another fish that had started getting internal organ problems due to ...

Re: Different Methods....
I would totally agree with Tom on this one. Two years ago I had some terrible problems with bacterial issues and high fish losses. I had a huge bacterial levels and sores would double in size in 24 hours. I had terrible problems reducing this and saving my fish. In the end I used salt and heat to ai...

Re: RO Systems
I got involved in some very interesting debates on this subject and after a lot of listening and learning I decided to give it a go. I had been throught twelve months of trouble and had considered jacking in the hobby completely. I decided to include ro im my pond inprovement plan. I had seen what o...

Re: Food and amounts
Hi Tom, Thanks for that reply, I can completely see what you mean. In truth we are trying to apply some control on to how our fish develop through their natural life cycle. As you rightly say we don't want them pushing all their efforts into egg production in the spring with the obvious problems tha...
