Re: Scrape
Thankyou for the reply
It’s all sorted now(few weeks ago) with help and treatment from Duncan
I have another question for you on media/showers
If you can give me advice on that, I’d be very grateful
Cheers
Carl

Re: Trickle Tower
Thanks for the reply The reason I ask is that there's a media ( you already probably know this) that's virtually identical in looks etc to BHM and it's called Sakura media. It's half the price I'm going to build a shower out of MDF Basically it's going to be a totally enclosed box(to cut down on noi...

Re: Trickle Tower
Manky, in your opinion is there anything as good as BHM but without the price tag ?
Or even anything that's just as comparable enough to make a difference to nitrate
Thanks

Re: here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tom, That was my initial thought and the removal of two large oxygen users from the pond would allow more oxygen for the others so they would have survived but Carl said there was no unusual behaviour immediately prior to the deaths and I would have thought that all the fish gasping for air would h...

Re: here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm thinking this also and it maybe my fault. About 10 days ago I switched air supply(supplementary) to pond onto a timer, it's on for 30 mins, then off for 30 mins during 0700 hrs-2200 hrs, then off completely from 2200 hrs to 0700am, when it goes back onto a timer. The BD always has 40 lpm going t...

Re: here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Koi have never been scraped and water parameters haven't been checked for some time, i don't profess to be an expert, but I know when something would be wrong with them. They were perfectly ok yesterday tea time, all swimming and feeding ok, koi have never, ever flicked, flashed or showed any signs ...

here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've just come home from work (1800 hrs) and found my 2 biggest kohaku dead, roughly 65cm, bought from Tosai, all koi bought from same dealer and no new additions since 2010. All other 7 koi seem fine, swimming ok, no visible problems. There are no visible problems on the dead koi. Does anyone have ...

Re: 1st pond planning,
A skimmer is a must IMHO, and so is some form of filtration off the skimmer. My skimmer goes direct to a midi sieve about 4 foot above water line and gravity fed back through a trickle tower of BHM...... flow rate is about 2000gph so it's more of a power shower than a trickle tower. Water is crystal...

Re: Can fish feel fear or pain?
I would have thought that any living creature can feel or is sensitive to pain...... they have blood running through veins, nerve endings, so by my rational thinking if they have nerves they must feel pain.
