Re: New pond construction in progress, really appreciate feed

The graphics at the start of your videos looks like a map of Africa to me, and the reference to Mountain Koi, got me thinking perhaps you were over in South Africa, but then when I saw the Red Kite, I got confused so thought I would ask. Wales is a lovely part of the country and the location looks i...

Re: New pond construction in progress, really appreciate feed

First off, looks a great location where you are, whereabouts are you ? and the pond looks to be progressing well. I’ve looked at your Youtube channel, and the videos look great. I would have preferred narration as I feel it makes it more personable and engaging, but it is still good though. To start...

Re: gravity pond

Hi, welcome to the forum. As Gazza has said the inlet to the filter (outlet from the pond) is too high to remove the majority of the waste from the pond so a bottom drain is the way to go. This would require the pond to be totally emptied, but you could get a temporary pool / vat to house your Koi w...

Re: Eazy Pod

You probably have the water level set as EA suggest, but because the K1 is new and boyant you will need to raise the level even more. What I do is once I have isolated the filter, ie put the middle pipe in and closed off the side slide valve , I get mine to boil by adding an extra bucket of pond wat...

Re: general questions

You could always make your own home made shower and use alternative media to BHM. BHM is said to be the best media to use, but it is expensive. You could perhaps use the alternatives until funds allow, or over time. ie perhaps buy enough BHM for one tier initially and use an alternative in the other...

Re: Anoxic Filtration with biocenosis baskets

From what I have seen and im always open for discussion, these systems that are using these setups are not what I call "True" Koi ponds.... ..... Graham Quote from the article linked too... "The pond has a capacity of a little more than 14-thousand gallons, is 7 1/2-feet deep (with t...

Re: Timer on skimmers

In my view it would depend on the context the advice was given in. It seems such a blanket statement that it can't be wrong for all situations.

You would have to take into consideration your specific situation to see if it would not be good to turn off the skimmer.

Re: Better options to filter a skimmer line.

My Skimmer goes gravity fed to a Nexus Easy pod. I never clean out the skimmer basket because I removed it ages ago. The reason behind this was to get a better flow into the pod, and was made possible because the grid over the skimmer entrance is filter grid, so small holes. There are not many trees...

Re: pond cover

What type of net do you have in mind ?

If the intention of covering the pond is to prevent accidents whilst you are away, ie to stop animals or children falling into the pond, I can't see a net achieving that goal. :?

If you have a leek in your veggie filter, I suppose you will need a veggie patch to sort it out

Re: skimmer

Can you clarify if the skimmer is gravity feeding to the filter and pump returned, or pump fed and gravity returned.

The size of the pipework could be key, what diameter is the pipe feeding the filter ?

Re: Reverse flow returns

My pond has two (more or less midwater) returns below water, one from the bottom drain and one from the skimmer. The flow around my pond is quite strong, and noticeably so. I was under the impression that a good flow was important and also allowed the Koi to ‘exercise’ and to have something to swim ...

Re: Oase Aquamax pumps

I've a 4000 Ecomax running submerged on my QT and it's been great. I've always found them pretty bomb-proof and have recommended and used them on other people's ponds in the past too and not heard of any problems. Did you contact Oase about these failures and see what they have to say about it? I'm...
