Re: fry tank population density

Hi Russell. for the past 3 years i have been tank raising fry. 200-300 in a 250 gal tank is fine...but the filteration is the key.Something ive learned is that the amount of food you'll be throwing in needs a more than adequate filter to cope. Best advice would be to use a flow through system on a l...

Hi Bob regarding benching the settlement tank...sorry i havent replied ealier ..ive been a way on the job for a few days. If you bench the settlement tank min 45degrees you'll obviously increase the floor area exposing more dust waste to the water which will aid decomposition.Benching to the outlet ...

Hi Bob, Firstly good size settlement will take out nearly all the waste passing into it....in my case I hazard a guess of it defiantely being in the 95%98% range as my bio is spotless. I have 2 drains going to the settlement tank, both draw similar amounts of water through them...you ask how do i kn...

Hi David agree there are a few ways to skin a cat. As previously posted I run a block/settlement filter , I also use a static k1 filter on my QT, for me flushing the static k1 once a day is a pain. Thankfully the k1 filter is indoors, if it was outdoors it would not get flushed often enough in the w...

Hi The only thing I would change is use a different pump...... If I was move house & build again ..... Id use the same filteration method for sure and probably go bigger with the settlement. The pond would be twice the size (10k) and indoors in a large fish house. I would use a screw type pump to...

James, I dont have any TDS or ORP readings. TDS for the general area is running at 150, Id say the pond is not much more than this, water passes over the settled waste not through it  Im told this is the key to settlement filters. Have to say I have tried hard not to buy a TDS & ORP meter a...

Hi Im running a block filter on my pond. You ask what tempted me to build a block filter...The pond was built during the summer of 2005 and I had great difficulty in selecting a suitable filter due to the fact I couldnt bring myself to fork out 2K on a system that looked like a glorified piece of pl...

Heres my pond filler entries ...2 fry from this years June spawn, although they are of no pedigree It will be interesting to see what can be achieved. Note the 1euro coin to give you an idea of size now at 8-9cm and were brought indoors about 2 weeks ago. Dave [img]http://www.koipix.com/gallery/albu...

Having a go at breeding.

The female has never spawned...
