Much depends on your hopes as to stocking levels, with sensible levels as part of your planning that only leaves the pond to consider from a practical perspective. I believe one of the contributing factors with my sisters problems with her koi is the stupid pond dimensions. It's 7' x 6' x 5' deep, w...

IMHO - There's no truth I've been able to corroborate in the depth versus heat issue, all the warm layer stuff has little bearing on modern ponds at the depths we're talking about. As for the growth issues I can tell you that is definitely a myth, the water quality not quantity is what indirectly ef...

Unfortunately the only company I have ever spoken to who seem to have clue was www.drydenaqua.com, but they do not claim to have koi specific knowledge. I have also heard good things of a company called all clear? Run by a lady of some repute in the koi world I believe, but regardless I think ponder...

Chris, I was a little the worse for a bottle of fine wine, and I did expect more flack for expressing such strong bias towards RO. Especially as I have previously been called elitist for promoting such an expensive addition to koi ponds. I have edited the post by removing my pessimistic opener, than...

The responses so far are pretty much what I would have predicted, which is unfortunate, because the actual potential is worth far more than that. In the interest of modesty I have to assume I got lucky, because my perspective on the results is so far away from the average to date it's not on the sam...

I can see how 3 Terracotta plant troughs might look quite attractive, could even have a few overhanging / trailing plants!

Well done Bob, get that water flowing, you know it makes sense!

Ah ha, a memory man! That was another reason for striving to complete the project, it's much more difficult to write convincingly about theory than fact. I will have more time certainly, but I will not be retiring per se, rather semi retirement, so hopefully work will occupy around 10 hours per week...

Of course I shall offer the koi here, but I wish to hang on to them until the death. Not very sensible I know but watching the fabulous development in the new water is addictive, I want as much as I can get, only now am I seeing what I consider to be justifiable returns on my investment!

The hardest part will be finding good homes for my koi, of the 12 two are chicken koi but 10 are high quality and several are good sizes. The two chicken koi will be given away but selling the others to a good home usually means a fair bit of travelling for buyer and Koi. I would consider myself luc...

Not so bad for me actually, I knew when I started this one that we would be selling within 5 years. It was simply a project to take my skills to another level and pass as much on as possible to others. Which is also why the pond is "average" size, the idea was to refine a pond of average p...

A novel solution to the problem, and certainly very sensible if you're thinking of moving. The koi will love you for getting the PH down from 9! I'm currently trying to implement the last round of improvements to the pond before selling the house at the end of the year, just in case I find a buyer w...

Thanks for that Bob, why did you replace the probe, a matter of maintenance or failure? I'm about to replace my Pinpoint probe as a matter of course, which I do around every 18 months. I may yet decide to get both a Pinpoint and that alternative probe to test against each other. It would be interest...

Ah ha, I thought you'd bought the alternative probe that company offers for around 2/3 rds the cost of the Pinpoint device.

Bob, how are you finding the new probe? Does it appear to read accurately relative to your previous experience with the Pinpoint device?

If so I will order one to try

From what I can see they've been around for years, de-ionisation is not exactly new technology. From what I recall of my early research a few years ago it has it's downside in a koi pond, but the good obviously outweighs the bad. The only way to properly do the job of water purification is RO IMHO. ...
