Ok Gazza, have you checked the ORP / Redox of your RO water yet? John, whilst there is certainly an alignment between RO usage, ORP / REDOX and PH, there are variables which can sway things sideways. In the summer I had an ORP / REDOX of 340 to 350, with a PH of 6.8 to 7.0, TDS 150, GH 4 to 5 and KH...

OK Duncan, catch you on the flip. I really have never considered the low PH of the product water, other than as stated, a bonus! Just checked and confirmed, reads 6.0 and if I agitate a little it will drop to 5.8 then steady back at 5.9. All readings were taken after temp compensation had settled, a...

That'd me Duncan, I have accepted that this is the case and learned to work around it. I have to trickle a fair amount of none RO water along with the RO product to balance things out.

There is one advantage, I need less RO product water than I otherwise would!

As you know Gazza that's not literally my point, though this particular cap is onesize just in case!

Hi guys, firstly Graham, I think as I may have said previously, there is I'm sure a group who would wish to advance their knowledge beyond the level required to perform the necessary tests. I had never intended to argue otherwise, but simply wished to maintain awareness that a simplistic aproach to ...

No problems at all Graham, I too have a little experience in the field, and as I also said in my previous post, virtually all such meters work on the same principle, though once again I chose not to elaborate. That choice was made consciously, as I do not believe adding more to the mix in this insta...

Now I'll take a couple of queries I missed earlier in this thread, sorry guys! Graham at one point posed questions relating to making allowances for dielectric factors (constant or otherwise) and insulators etc. I can answer this aspect very clinically, as it happens my elder son whilst at universit...

No need for apologies Graham, your observations were valid, just needed to try and get the message accross that it is actually possible to get good benefit from devices regardless of whether or not you understand the deeper science involved. I more than most am aware that one's enthusiasm, or even p...

One could say a certain amount of tolerance is required to absorb and utilise all of this information! As Duncan has tried to point out though, we are not dealing with absolutes here, but with approximations. The science requirement is basic, go beyond that and we would have to start discussing equi...

Hi John, we can be assured of one thing from your post, you realise ORP/REDOX is not simplistic! It can however be simplified without aquiring a science degree, Duncan has gone some way in that direction, there's little constructive to add really, but I'll try. As per my comments in the thread Dunca...

There's actually little difference between meters with regard to the conversion factors from EC to TDS, purely a manufacture thing, determined as much by the choice of components as other factors. However if like me you decide to utilise both EC and TDS meters, be sure they are either from the same ...

I work around 20 hours a week over 52 weeks these days, so I have a lot of time and resources with which to prove or disprove theories and ideas, mine and all the rest!

Gazza, I have found it totally unnecessary to purify the small amount of fresh water required for an RO/fresh water mix. The volume of fresh untreated water is so low if straight from mains that any unwanted elements are totally insignificant. I did originally rig a bypass to tap off pretreated wate...
